Juno's cover of DJ Shadow's High Noon totally got me into him. Definately a cool track.

Can anyone else find examples of great covers like this?

The only one I can think of is the Dillinger Escape Plan's "Come to Daddy", which is funny the first time and ferocious the next couple of times but wears a bit thin after that, so not really a "great cover" as such. Still, it's a good EP.

The Roots of Orchis have a cover of Björk's "Possibly Maybe" available on the Hush Records site (along with a number of others, from a cover album that never cam eout). It's a lovely, soothing, five-minute instrumental.

the Smashing Pumpkins were known for covering Prodigy's "Firestarter" doing some live shows in their twilight era.

does the Dillinger Escape Plan AFX cover have Mike Patton on vox?

gygax!, Monday, 25 November 2002 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

He's on vox for the rest of the EP but I'm not sure about that track, it's hard to tell. I'll go for, "er, probably," and hope somebody who knows sees this thread.

The Dylan group cover Nobukazu Takemura on his Child's View album Funfair (I think they've also done Aphex Twin covers.) V. nice.

The DEP track does have Mike Patton on it. I'm not really that into it on the EP but I saw em do it live with Patton (they were opening for his Tomahawk band) and it was AMAZING. Defnitely the highlight of the show. Just sounded way rawer and more chaotic.

There was some Dandy Warhols type band that did a rather impressive cover of Kraftwerk's "Neon Lights".

I want to start a funk blues bar AFX cover band. Or Severed Heads or what have you.

If the Dylan Group count, they do a fine cover of the Orb's Towers of Dub too.

nabisco once said he was working on acoustic guitar covers of mouse on mars tracks, i'd like to hear those.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 25 November 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Death Cab for Cutie did a cover of Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love" on the Stability EP. Whether or not you like it probably depends on your opinion of the band.

I saw a student band do a GREBT medley that started with Basement Jaxx's 'Red Alert', went through Block Rockin' Beats and ended with a rendition of Orbital's Halcyon complete with male and female singers doing the Jon and Belinda bits from the live set.

Suffice it to say it was the best thing EVAH!

Lake Trout did a spot-on cover of Amon Tobin's "Nightlife" live a few times.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Mudhoney has a house cover on Piece Of Cake.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

On the flip side of the coin the double disc set "Blue Skied An' Clear" is all electronica artists doing covers of Slowdive tunes. It isn't groundbreaking but it is nice to listen to.

webcrack (music=crack), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Kid A was an Aphex covers album surely, or as near as damnit...

chrys sallys, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A friend of mine once directed me to Miocene's version of "Why Hip Hop Sucks In 97", except it's called "Why Metal Sucks In 2002".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 01:04 (twenty-three years ago)

we're hardly rock, but Tugboat have covered a Kraftwerk song (first song linked here), and will soon be covering Severed Heads too..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 01:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Nudge do a nice Tortoise-y cover of Casino Versus Japan's "Local Forcast" on one of those Tigerbeat6 comps.

Justin M (Justin M), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 07:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, that "Dandy Warhols style band" turned out to be Luna, who covered Kraftwerk's "Neon Lights".

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 28 November 2002 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

i saw the divine comedy do a fucking incredible cover of radioactivity when they played in dublin a few years ago, there is a version of the cover as a bside, but it wasn't nearly as good...

robin (robin), Thursday, 28 November 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)
