Shoegaze Jangle!

Yes, "Shoegaze Jangle" Why not? Just making something up, because I don't know if this guitar pattern very commonly used for upbeat shoegaze numbers and other similar 80s/90s indie rock songs has any name at all? Educate me!

Being used in the new Adam Curtis has this shit *thoroughly* lodged in my brain the past couple weeks.

All great examples so far! And yeah songs that feel similar like Everything Flows by Teenage Fanclub or Off Your Face by MBV (feeling like this one could have been a major direct inspiration to a lot of these examples in the shoegaze universe).

Definitely all close, with Starlust feeling the closest of all the Lush examples so far.

And I love that Golden Dawn song truly but I have to say it's definitely not the specific strum pattern I'm talking about. God I do love Sarah records stuff though. My wife got me some Brighter & Eternal 45s for my birthday recently!

I absolutely LOVE Fudge and was trying to promote them on one of the "lost 90s bands" sort of threads I'd revived not long ago! That song doesn't exactly follow the same strum pattern that I was trying to zero in on specifically here, but the band is definitely a big deal in this little universe of 90s indie I'm obsessed with.

That rhythm honestly makes me think of this, which is maybe at the front end of the era of this strum.

necro-revival, but very obscure trivia is the Kurt (Lilys) wrote the Fudge song that Clemenza is referring to... and then left the band! But they kept his songs.
