Yes, "Shoegaze Jangle" Why not? Just making something up, because I don't know if this guitar pattern very commonly used for upbeat shoegaze numbers and other similar 80s/90s indie rock songs has any name at all? Educate me!
Strumming goes like this:Down_Down_DownUpDownUp_UpDown_DownUpDownUp

I heard that Swirlies song and was wracking my brain trying to figure out where heard it before and realized I played it quite often on my radio show back in '93.
Here's another that slots right in:

Tons of Dinosaur Jr. also uses this strumming pattern, which makes sense since timeline-wise they are certainly proto-this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5yxVuNDLmo

The phrase "shoegaze jangle" just makes me think of 'like a daydream' by ride. also maybe 'everything flows' by teenage fanclub?

All great examples so far! And yeah songs that feel similar like Everything Flows by Teenage Fanclub or Off Your Face by MBV (feeling like this one could have been a major direct inspiration to a lot of these examples in the shoegaze universe).
Here's another song I've been obsessed with recently:

Matt from Sarah Records got a lot of flak (and even a few death threats, I believe) for releasing this on his label:

Definitely all close, with Starlust feeling the closest of all the Lush examples so far.
And I love that Golden Dawn song truly but I have to say it's definitely not the specific strum pattern I'm talking about. God I do love Sarah records stuff though. My wife got me some Brighter & Eternal 45s for my birthday recently!

― clemenza, Monday, 17 May 2021 02:35 (four years ago)
Example: I have four Lilys songs, including the one you posted, which to my ears doesn't sound all that different from this--but maybe there's some crucial difference I don't hear.

I absolutely LOVE Fudge and was trying to promote them on one of the "lost 90s bands" sort of threads I'd revived not long ago! That song doesn't exactly follow the same strum pattern that I was trying to zero in on specifically here, but the band is definitely a big deal in this little universe of 90s indie I'm obsessed with.
― Evan, Monday, 17 May 2021 03:02 (four years ago)
That rhythm honestly makes me think of this, which is maybe at the front end of the era of this strum.

Assume this has been talked about somewhere on here.
In 2023, shoegaze is bigger than ever. Major label signees, unprecedented Billboard charts, record streaming figures, and mainstream visibility. The sound, look, and reach of the genre are changing. And TikTok is the engine. My analysis for @stereogum.https://t.co/f4V3exuPpJ— Eli (@eli_enis) December 18, 2023

necro-revival, but very obscure trivia is the Kurt (Lilys) wrote the Fudge song that Clemenza is referring to... and then left the band! But they kept his songs.
