"space cowboy" my most listened to so it seems the only choice. I will be shocked if the new one matches it

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 May 2021 23:52 (four years ago)

"best-produced record like.. ever" otm, the best sounding acoustic guitars i've ever heard, just impeccable sound design all around too

it's one of "slow burn", "oh what a world" and "love is a wild thing" but i have no idea how to choose right now

ufo, Friday, 21 May 2021 00:11 (four years ago)

or "happy & sad"... there's so many great tracks

ufo, Friday, 21 May 2021 00:12 (four years ago)

second choice would be "high horse" that song rules

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Friday, 21 May 2021 00:14 (four years ago)

voting "slow burn"

i don't think "mother" will be the sort of track to receive votes but it is v essential imo

"Lonely Weekend." "If my sister lived in town..." and the mmm that follow just kill me.

swing out sister: live in new donk city (geoffreyess), Friday, 21 May 2021 04:08 (four years ago)

My answer is in the title...but tbh there is no wrong answer here. Except maybe "Velvet Elvis".

monotony, Friday, 21 May 2021 04:43 (four years ago)

challop: I hate Space Cowboy, it's like oh clever wordplay, how about I repeat it 60000x
not fond of Velvet Elvis either
the rest is astonishing infinite blue reverb LSD trails

assert (MatthewK), Friday, 21 May 2021 05:28 (four years ago)

Went with “Love Is a Wild Thing” because that chorus, but could be almost anything.

yeah this is "love is a wild thing" for that bridge section

"happy & sad" a close second

ufo, Friday, 21 May 2021 12:28 (four years ago)

This is tough! "Lonely Weekend" is probably the one that best represents the album in my mind's eye. The two that go to wholly different places and still work beyond any expectations I would have had earlier in her career are "High Horse" and "Rainbow." I'm voting "High Horse" because it's the one I think I'd miss most if it was cut.

Also agree the mixing on this album is out of this world.

Slow Burn might be my favorite Musgraves song, though this album is actually my overall least favorite of hers.

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Friday, 21 May 2021 15:42 (four years ago)

Last time I tried to decide it was "Oh What a World" but Slow Burn is the song that defines the album for me.

slow burn easy for me

pure rim rest (Spottie), Friday, 25 June 2021 00:06 (four years ago)

i got to hear this album a month or so before it came out because i was doing a story on her, they sent me wav files and i was completely blown away by how every song sounded, i insisted on talking to the producers. i didn't know anyone at the time who had heard it so i was kinda wondering if i was just going crazy or something, i couldn't believe how good it sounded. i've always been good that the consensus is that it's a classic, rare instance of validation

anyway i listened to this on a boat very recently lmao, incredible vibes. my vote is for "lonely weekend" bcuz the drum fill is really one of the best things i've ever heard in my life, i run that song back at least once every time i put this album on. "wonder woman" would be my next pick, such a good groove. "space cowboy" and "slow burn" are also both impeccable productions, "golden hour"... "love is a wild thing"... damn this album is so good

I voted for the title track

winters (josh), Friday, 25 June 2021 05:15 (four years ago)

there are about 10 tracks worthy of a vote here but i went for "Mother" in case no one else does. that song really gets to me.

alpine static, Friday, 25 June 2021 05:28 (four years ago)

probably in part because i live 2500 miles from my mom.

but also ... the brevity

alpine static, Friday, 25 June 2021 05:29 (four years ago)

Rainbow all the way

brimstead, Friday, 25 June 2021 14:27 (four years ago)

wait I mean BUTTERFLIES

brimstead, Friday, 25 June 2021 14:27 (four years ago)

Voted for Happy & Sad but it easily could have been 4 or 5 other tracks.

that's not my post, Friday, 25 June 2021 18:49 (four years ago)

No votes for "Butterflies"?! Gives me goosebumps every time. Then again, whatever song is playing is the finest song on this album. It's flawless. J0rdan is right about the "Lonely Weekend" drum fill. Holy Moses, it's unreal. Best album of the 2010s. Gave my mother a copy after it got released & it was the only thing she played for about 18 months straight, which may sound like a pointless reveal, but she never listens to new music.

Saw Kacey perform this material twice in concert--once when she opened for Harry Styles at Madison Square Garden (they did a duet cover of Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" during the encore)--& it's gobsmacking to hear her voice in person. That's right: Your gob will be smacked.

She also has one of the greatest heads of hair ever, but that's another poll, I guess.

my vote would’ve been for butterflies!!!!! <3

brimstead, Sunday, 27 June 2021 21:38 (four years ago)

two years pass...

high horse? c'mon that's the weakest track on here

slow burn is a fair winner but love is a wild thing <3

all these tracks rule

Oh, What a World 3
Lonely Weekend 3
Love is a Wild Thing 3
Space Cowboy 2
Happy & Sad 1
Mother 1

alpine static, Friday, 15 March 2024 08:58 (one year ago)

Space Cowboy should be much higher

Indexed, Friday, 15 March 2024 15:41 (one year ago)

agreed, she really makes the metaphor fly, beautiful song and rare case of a message/moral song that makes a good point in a clever way
