Here's one of my favorite Irreversible Entanglements performances on YouTube:

Fantastic artist and very compelling live performer.

A great interview, too. (I talked to her for a Bandcamp Daily piece, and some more of what she said made it into my upcoming book.)

five months pass...

Digging Open the Gates, my first from her I believe, but I'm ready to hear her collaboration with Billy Woods (loved Hiding Places). Inevitably her spoken word reminds me of Matana Roberts, plenty of exciting bass-drum-percussive work that reminds me of various Shabaka Hutchings records, immersive atmosphere, I feel knee-deep and I'm just starting the last 40 minutes of the record.

I enjoyed the moor mother album from last year's end of...lists, I've taken to randomly uttering some of the lyrics.. "Holographic Skies and God Walls!!!" is a fav....you've got to say it like you're a preacher from the year 2525, hands rising in the air...

one year passes...

Jazz Codes has a rich nocturnal ambiance. It's rather inward-looking, walking her private museum of black music, smooth, comfortable, with ghostly apparitions of Matana Roberts, abstract hip hop, Erykah Badu, and more. Genre hopping and fusion building a world made of short immersive and warm tracks. Pretty much the opposite of what I was expecting.

it's definitely easier listening than her earlier work
