Been really enjoying 1971, the excellent music documentary on Apple TV. Songs here are all included in the series. There are about 120 songs in the soundtrack, so I'm breaking this into three polls (assuming there is still a 50 item limit to polls).

Literally impossible.

I know all but five of these. "Time" by Sly because it's a favourite I wouldn't have expected to see, over Leon Russell.
Never heard of Imaginary Future.
Worst is "Stop Breaking Down".

Loved the documentary. Picked Inner City Blues but easily could have been a dozen other tunes.

1971: year of the snare

A friend was telling me about this (can't watch it as of yet). I thought it might be based on the David Hepworth book about 1971, but apparently not.

1. "Ohio"
2. "Thank You..."
3. "Get It On"

clemenza, Sunday, 13 June 2021 21:41 (three years ago)

Hepworth is listed in the credits as a consulting producer.

I suppose there's some explanation, but I'm wondering why "Brown Sugar" (definitely '71) and "Stop Breaking Down" (Exile comes out May of '72) would both be included.

Def 71

calstars, Monday, 14 June 2021 00:09 (three years ago)

The show uses tunes recorded in 71 (like Exile) and released in 71. Also has a very interesting piece on the Loud Family that was filmed in 71 but not shown until 73. Poetic license and all.

Rock Steady

I had to vote for Miles, in part because the brief clip of "Right Off" (accompanied by film of him attending the Ali-Frazier fight) is the only Miles mention in the whole series. But, you know, Keef once nodded off recording "Ventilator Blues," so let's talk about that for 20 minutes.

(It's actually a pretty decent series, but too heavy -- and repetitive -- on Stones/Exile stuff.)

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 15 June 2021 14:54 (three years ago)

I think it's worth it alone for the Angela Davis episode. The emotional crescendo of Aretha singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water" just blew me away.

Also, I never knew what a cool dude Bill Withers was.

Haven't watched this yet, but I think in fairness this is exactly what I'd expect from something called 1971: The Year Music Changed Everything.

gonna pick boring answer, "What's Going On?", cos I know ILX probably won't. but it's my fav of this (very solid) crop

I almost voted for "Oh Yeah", which would have won and that would have been a very ILX sort of result but I didn't vote because there were too mnay good tracks and I couldn't make up my mind.
