let your love just POLL me: the swv 'release some tension' poll

the ballads are obviously beautiful (rain, when u cry) but i've been digging the easygoing vibes of "lose my cool" lately, with the great redman appearance ("save yo beef for the rice and broccoli), and "lose myself," which is somehow not a timbo production.

"can we" still sounds fresh, much less idiosyncratic than most timbaland beats but it's so lush

haven't heard this album but "rain" is so good

listened to this album this morning. I was only familiar with “Can We” and, to a lesser extent, “Rain”, but it’s good almost all the way thru - could do without the last three tracks (beat on “Lose Myself” is okay, but melody is too generic SWV imo)

“Can We” is still killer, surprised to see it was only a minor US hit (#31 r&b, wtf?) compared to followups “Someone” and “Rain”.
I was most taken by the very Missy (Sista, even) title track. might do another round before I get my vote in tho.

(and oh for the days when a rapper would compare himself to a fax machine and found himself wanting)

btw, very happy to be given an occasion to listen to a 90s r&b album again, so thank you for that, voodoo chili. I was all about this music back then, but I don’t listen to it all that much these days.

i've kind of been on a kick lately, inspired by the xscape vz. swv battle and the rob harvilla podcast about tlc & no scrubs.
