Cocteau Twins, maybe? I mean, they had a drum machine not an actual drummer, but they left off the drums for one album (Victorialand) and it's one of their best.

I think Mark E Smith left the Fall's drummer at a gas station and then went and played a big festival with the Chemical Brothers manager filling in on drums

Nothing at all against Bill Berry's drumming, or the REM songs with drums. I just happen to really live a few of the drummerless tracks on Automatic, though i know a lot of ppl don't like that one.

anyway unless indie rhythm sections have improved a hell a lot when I wasn't looking this would improve most of those bands esp the UK ones. did oasis really need a drummer for example

I believe the band (aka the TLC aka Three Lazy Cunts) actually quit on MES before he could fire them & Narnack hooked him up with three guys in LA (aka the Dudes [featuring the only beard in Fall history]) who he finished out the rest of the tour with. They had played like, ten shows or something before Mpls, but they did essentially rehearse (sans MES) during soundcheck, which was a whole thing.

I think I talked to Orpheo the drummer and asked what it was like and he smiled and said "crazy"

that's kind of unfair though - maybe he has to play that way to make the rest sound in tune?

I imagine this is the result of multiple takes, with the producer or engineer reminding him that the tempo is actually faster than he thinks it is at the end of each one.

His guitar playing always sounds so lackadaisical in the mix, it's surprising to hear him push himself.

spacemen 3 and spectrum seem to resent having to use drums on their albums, even most of their rockier stuff is like “ok bass drum, tambourine, some crash symbols every now and then and were good”. maybe it’s part of why the relentless drum machining on “revolution” sounds so shocking and intense

what I saw about Radiohead was that it's a side project called Smile

i wasn't the first drummer for P.tm. i found them at an after party for Relix. i was very out of it and confused as to what their group was. it was all the way new orleans with them before the beignets finally won out and i had to go

they were definitely better off without me, i disagreed with their entire direction in retrospect, although they are VERY nice

I like the drum machine on The Jesus & Mary Chain's Darklands but I wouldn't say it made the band better.
