Tattle Tale

Just heard them mentioned as one of the great lost indie bands. Their only album "Sew True" was apparently so limited that it goes for around $200 on EBay now, and the other releases barely exist online. Thus far, praise has been universal. Has anybody heard them and would like to add their opinion?

I haven't heard them but it appears the CD you mention is readily available, and the band has a Bonfire Madigan connection..

It's far from "readily available"— Amazon doesn't have it, and I seriously doubt you'd be able to find it at your local brick-and-mortar record store. This page seems to think you can mail-order it direct from the label, but who knows if the information is still accurate...

Tattle Tale was made up of Madigan Shive, now of Bonfire Madigan, and Jen Wood, now of, um, Jen Wood. I saw them in 1994 at 924 Gilman, opening up for godheadSilo. They had a bit of a timid coffeehouse-folk vibe to them, which made them seem even more out of place in a punk club like Gilman, but I liked them. I kinda wish they had stayed together, since the stuff they've done since then is good only in patches.

Hmmm, does this mean I can retire to a life of luxury on the proceeds of their tape on KRS? Seem to remember it being OK, but would hesitate to use the word "great".

$200? What? I got my copy used for $1. If someone wants to offer me $200 for it, they can have it. (People have told me my copy of the soundtrack to the Justine Bateman vehicle "Satisfaction", which apparently features Julia Roberts doing backup, goes for like $50 on eBay. It's hard to imagine the Madigan fans being more ravenous than the Julia fans.)

The Tattle Tale CD is fine. One song, called something like "Glass Vase Cello Case", is particularly fine. If you like Madigan's solo work, you'll like this.

There was this one Tattle Tale show in Pomona CA many years ago, where the band were tortured with shouts for "BADGER SONG!", and... well, I don't think I should go into any further detail.

wait a minute donut b who are you and were you really there at that awful, awful show

Sadly, I was not there at the show, but I know several who were.

Needless to say, folks, if you're ever a touring acoustic band or artist, and you prefer to not be amplified, don't have the pretense to announce that fact to the audience. Unless you want to be severely heckled.

Or more to the point, don't make yourself seem so fragile because of it.

Or don't, as in the case of Tattle Tale, lie about why you're choosing not to be amplified -- the soundguy at Pitzer didn't have much experience, as they'd noticed from, ahem, their opener's set. The next night at Jabberjaw, though, they played to a smaller crowd, yet did so through a P.A. -- no speeches about how intimate it is to play unamplified then! Remarkable.

Besides, weren't Tattle Tale just the indie grrl Extreme on Sominex?
