I like the first Rye EP better than the rest of their material.

Rye Coalition suck so bad, really hstencil what's the meaning of this...

dead dead bird, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm trying to point out how bad they suck compared to, like, AC/DC, who totally fucking rule (pre-Brian Johnson, of course).

hstencil, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree that newer Rye sucks/. But has anyone heard the Teenage Dance Session 7"?

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, you don't need to show us they suck, they (rye coalition) are doing a very fine job of that themselves.

It's like comparing Apples and Cancer!!

while i would never betray the masters of hard rockizor, early rye coalition was pretty nicely brewed.

but yeah, they suck now. and their greater accessibility only means i get to hear them more often amongst certain pals of mine.... so i can't escape.

This is madness! Even the Brian Johnson years trample over these guys!

Tiger Style Records--where bands go to die.

Early Rye wasn't that bad. Sounded much more Karp/Jesus Lizard-esque. Less of this classic hard rock worship.

That James Chance box set can't come out soon enough, then.

When you get to what rock and roll is about, how many rock bands can really compete with AC-DC with Bon Scott?

"Highway to Hell" is about as timeless as you get with rock and roll.

AC/DC wins because of longevity. On to my rant.

Look, you stupid fucks. Rye Coalition put on probably the best show I've seen in 3 years. Granted, all the shows I see are in D.C., so any band that plays there tones down their act because they know they're gonna be playing to a bunch of jaded shiteaters, who I eventually will kill. Just you wait. And I've had more fun at Supersuckers shows and Trail of Dead shows, but then again, those guys were headlining, so the crowd was part of the good time. Rye Coalition does not give a hairy rat shit. They know that everyone is standing around with their arms crossed, trying to look superior with the bottle of Becks that they paid $8 for, but they rock the fuck out anyways, and do a great job at it. The 1st time I saw'em they opened for The Fucking Champs, I left after their set because I knew it wouldn't get any better, 2nd time they opened for Golden, ditto, 3rd time they opened for Shellac, I waited through 3 shellac songs and left. I don't know what they hell happened that you guys didn't like'em, maybe you just don't like a band that rocks out beyond all limits, but I've only known about them for like 7 months and they're in my top 15, if not 10.

Man, I did such a good job of being a level-headed guy in ILM until now.

Well, I saw them once, too. (At North Six in Brooklyn, last spring.) And in their defense, they weren't completely horrible. Sounded like indie kiddies who'd just found out about Grand Funk Railroad last year. Sounded like the kind of band who would spell "rock" "rawk" in their press release. (Like, is that spelling supposed to be a parody of a midwestern accent, or what? I don't get it. It's almost as dumb a word as "nu-metal.") Basically, they sounded like they were trying to be Jesus Lizard or the Scratch Acid or somebody. You could tell they were an artfuck band not a hard rock band because their singer totally sucked. Plus, "Stairway to the Freebird on the Way to the Smokey Water" is one of the stupidest song titles in human history.

So now I will defend Rye (?): they are not "indie kiddes who'd just found out about Grand Funk Railroad last year." In fact, 5 years ago I saw them cover "Dazed and Confused."

That said, it still wasn't a good show, and I think they're a lousy band, but jeezus Mr. Crochety Old Rock Critic get your facts straight.
