Last night I decided to listen to Adam F - Circles for the first time in at least 20 years and consequently came across this name for the first time as well.

yeah i like all the songs she's put out so far tbh

she certainly picks classic samples

i think she's great. the combo of her lyrics, her vocals and the brevity of the songs gives her music a dreamlike quality that really appeals to me, i like that the tracks feel as if they're floating in and out of your consciousness, or like they're these little gems tucked into a DJ mix that you'd periodically remember once a year and play for a weekend straight. it's a flirtation with ephemerality in the songwriting while also being really zeitgeisty that i think is cool. "pain" in particular really hits these notes for me

vocals kinda reminds me of some max tundra stuff for some reason

put that on my tracks ballot, although "Take me home" was the one I had running on a loop at the time

album feels a bit underwhelming in the end, just a bit undercooked, the magic isn't consistently there? the singles & "ophelia" (gorgeous harp-heavy r&b with danny l harle) are the best tracks.

was kinda my feeling too. just didn't think the songwriting was strong enough which is interesting given kurstin's heavy involvement. "nice to meet you" is a good example insofar as the producer/feature combo is great but the song lands in that weird charli xcx halfway to mainstream pop purgatory place. i think "blue" was my fav of the album tracks

i will also say that it hink "mosquito" is her best song since "passion" and one of my fav singles of the year, i love the little nods towards "someone to call my lover" on that

I heard that one with the Underworld sample once, in a local hipster cheese shop, and the melody lived under my skin and in the core of my being for weeks afterwards, until I had to play it a few more times.

This one. I heard it once and not even all of it. I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned here as I just heard it in passing. But I watched the TV broadcast of her performing it at Glastonbury and it seemed pretty big, maybe has been big in the UK.

Ah that must be it, the crowd were all singing along in the video. Also when I heard it at the shop in Hackney it had that weird energy of virality or something that you sometimes get when a certain song is played in a public place, and which you can identify in people's reaction even if you don't know the song.

Yeah the social media discussion was a lot of the brevity of the songs being deliberately planned to ensure TikTok-ability

Also something about the clever use of technological nostalgia, because apparently the video for one of her songs uses a filter common in the early YouTube era? I wish I could remember the details but of course I can't find the post now

The nostalgia aspect wouldn't work if her songs weren't so damned catchy. But it's interesting the way she blends the samples, the visual references, etc.

yeah “illegal” is one of the year’s best songs. she’s got an incredible ear for melodies and an ability to sound offhand and causal while: a) still coming up with memorable turns of phrase, and b) without seeming like she’s trying too hard to be offhand and casual

the opening four-track run feels like a high moment for pop in this decade. the transition from "tonight" into "stars" is just *chefs kiss*

The last song is a bit too kitschy but everything else feels perfect

it's funny i'm raving about this, given i thought To Hell With It was rather boring

its funny I feel like so much of the discourse is about how shes so cool and has such great taste and I feel like the brand is actually that she's basic and has kind of 'mid' taste (sometimes it's knowing ie leaning in on the sears catalog fashions or whatever) BUT is like, a cut-above artist who manages to take all that and produce art thats really inspired and contemporary and musically engaging

Hm, I wasn’t swept away - plenty of charm but it felt quite stiff and awkward, she was clearly very anxious as she says upfront. Only a few of the songs translated well, I thought. Not to be a hater, I think she’s brilliant and respect for tackling a very unfamiliar format.

I love the band she’s assembled here. Never would have expected it, but they sound great (acoustic mobile phone interruption and all, so cleverly done)

Her accent keeps wobbling all over the place - trying to sound smooth and American but Kent keeps surfacing through in an adorable way

haha nice. The band and new versions of the tracks are smart. She's been criticised in the past for pretty much going out and doing awkward karaoke. If she's ever able to pull that off, though, that's what I'd want to hear if i was going to her show. The proper full bangers. Something like a Charli show.
