Ghostbusters OST Poll

I know the song and movie, but nothing about Ray Parker Jr. or how he came to record the song, so I looked it up - quite a bit of surprising trivia!

Lindsey Buckingham was originally approached to write the theme song based on his contribution to National Lampoon's Vacation, "Holiday Road." (Buckingham turned them down.)

Huey Lewis sued and got a settlement after he claimed the song plagiarized "I Want a New Drug."

The theme song was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song and lost to Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You." It was also the last time all Oscar nominees in that category hit #1 on the Billboard charts, and they didn't even nominate any songs from Purple Rain. (As Andra Day said, "that's some bullshit!") Maybe Prince's best original song-score nomination (which he won) disqualified those songs from the original song category?

Mick Smiley' 'Magic' is precisely that. Dude's a total enigma besides (recorded this, wrote 'Kiss Me Deadly', then poof) so double classic imo.

I listened to this soundtrack once a day for a stretch of 1984 and have no memory of some of these songs, apart from the tile tune and (I have no idea why) Laura Brannigan’s song.

We recently watched GB and I had to tell my son to look away while I skipped that scene

the song that has stuck with me the most is Savin' the Day.

As a kid, Savin’ the Day sequence in the film was first time I was aware of song plus visuals combining for “shit yeah!” punch the air effect.

Listened to I Want A New Drug at the weekend, having never heard it before. Shocking.

The entire soundtrack is very good. I even love that sappy swoony totally-80s-soundtrack Air Supply song.
But I think I'll have to go for the title track because bustin' makes me feel good.

I miss a lot of those big, fun, weird movie soundtracks. This one, Beverly Hills Cop, et al., it's wild to think I used to listen to rando soundtracks as much as real records.

Bernstein’s score is better than any of the songs here. Voted Magic.
