One of the best records of 2021 and no thread?!

I liked the album they did a few years ago, but disliked the song I heard from this album

It's a grower if there ever was one.

At first i thought wtf is this childish 90's tribute band? I was wrong.

Didn't know who this was, so I just skimmed the first three tracks. Not my thing in the slightest, but enjoy yourselves!

I don't get it at all. The hype let me to believe they were some hardcore band thinking outside the box but then I listened to the music and it sounded like 90s alternative radio mixed with 2000s iPod commercial music.

it was one of the dev hynes collaboration songs that I heard and didn't like

i still need to hear this, and i've never knowingly heard a complete turnstile album before so i'm not sure i recommended them to oor

ok, i'll just blame simon then? lol.

I don't get the hype myself and this is theoretically something I should like.

Same, they're very fun live. All these new preview tracks are dope and unexpectedly accessible for pop crossover.

This is definitely the first time I've heard any hardcore attempting Wincing The Night Away / Target-commercial millennial whoops. And it's actually somehow good.

There isn't a rolling punk 2021 that I can find so I'll post this here.

The Bronx never much impressed me and their Mariachi El Bronx stuff made me roll my eyes.
However the new album that came out today has a spark to it that hits the spot nicely.
It's catchy without being pop-punk a la some of my favorite albums by Supersuckers and Speedealer.

Saw the Bronx open for Dropkick (yuk) and Rancid at an outdoor show last night. They were...really good? In fact, they were great! Really surprising tbh.
Rancid were shambolic and excellent per usual, hadn't seen them in more than two decades. Had a nice time despite the swarms of Dropkick fans.

i know “hardcore” and “hardcore punk” are 2 diff genres (also chubby and the gang are the latter and totally fair game itt) and the former is more of an outgrowth of emo/metal but i was surprised to read on pitchfork that the most innovative thing a hardcore band can do in 2021 is sound like radio alt rock

The surprise veering into non-hardcore directions is consistent with the first two albums. This new one definitely jumps around more frequently and heads down more adventurous avenues, but it would sound gimmicky to me if the record wasn't just as solid as the earlier ones. The jams are still dope.

but yeah, i think the record is great and also think the incubus and third eye blind comparisons are not that far off the mark. ok, maybe not the third eye blind one.

The more immediate tracks imo are "Fly Again" or "Don't Play" or "Holiday." I would start with those 3 and not with "Mystery" which I did not enjoy at first but 4-5 weeks later I grew to absolutely love.

311 is a closer reference than 3EB.

I also really loved "TLC" right away and it's probably more closely aligned with their earlier stuff.

Having given it a listen, I don't like it much. It does remind me of some of the later 90s bands mentioned here I never liked.

So after reading this thread i might need to call it a "guilty pleasure" so i wouldn't feel ashamed lol . Seriously though, in the end, it's just an enjoyable, melodic pop punk record with some twists

Former guitarist Brady Ebert, who was fired from the band over drug problems in 2022, ran over Brandon's dad.

A former guitarist of the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile is accused of intentionally hitting the lead singer’s father with a car and leaving him with severe trauma to both of his legs.

Brady Ebert, 33, of Silver Spring, was taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault, and a district court commissioner ordered him to be held without bond.

Turnstile in 2022 announced that it was “parting ways” with Ebert.

His bail review hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County.

Andy Alpert, Ebert’s attorney, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Montgomery County Police responded on March 29 to a home on Timberlake Drive in Silver Spring, where officers discovered William Yates, 79, in the front yard with “trauma to his lower extremities.”

Yates is the father of Brendan Yates, 36, the lead singer of Turnstile. A representative for the band didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Family members told detectives that Ebert showed up at the home, honked his horn and yelled obscenities. Ebert then returned and intentionally hit William Yates with his car in the driveway, police allege.

Detectives reported that they obtained surveillance video of the attack.

Ebert played with Turnstile through the release of its 2021 album “Glow On,” which received widespread critical acclaim and rocketed the band into the mainstream. Members announced in 2022 that they were “parting ways” with him.

Police spoke with William Yates at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He told them that Ebert had been causing issues with his family since being fired from the band. He also detailed several previous incidents.

When he was on the ground waiting for first responders to arrive, William Yates stated that Ebert came back and started to yell that he “deserved it,” police claim.

Turnstile won a Grammy Award for best new rock album for its 2025 record “Never Enough,” as well as best metal performance for the song “Birds.”

Ebert launched a new hardcore band called The S.E.T., which stands for the self evident truth. But he was fired before its self-titled EP came out.
