META: The Most Influential ILM Poster

It's Mark Sinker! Oh, the irony. Even he knows it. Everyone cops his truncated grammar. His influence has even bled into the 'blogs.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd certainly agree that Mark S. is the most influential prose stylist on the board. Possibly Tom Ewing exerts greater influence in terms of musical taste through his tireless championing of pop - both on the board and through his websites.

Whenever someone says "mark has an interesting point about..." I like to pretend they're talking about something I said.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, but can he play guitar?!?

(Oh, the irony - Mark S. gets credit for being "influential"!)

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

all of you jump off a bridge!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:38 (twenty-three years ago)

see?

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

(where is everybody?)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah sinkerspeak took over the boards long ago, though instant-messaging truncation had a part to play too.

My so-called influence on taste has been a catastrophic failure in terms of generating posters who I regularly agree with! In terms of recommending and championing new records it's surely Sterling, Tim F, Jess, Marcello.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I will only have proved that I have any ability to champion records if I can convince people that Ja Rule's new album is really great.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

It might be a very lonely road you walk on there, Sterling.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

sinkerspeak? What about sinkerswim?

hardeharhar.

hstencil, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I would say Ned.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

?!? Good god, how? I mean, I'm flattered and all...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

sterl I bought nbn on your say-so!

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

ned: ;) obv

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What is influence, anyway?

hstencil, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Sterling, Jess, + especially Tim F. deserve plaudits for championing new stuff (Sterl biging up Ja Rule might be pushing things though).

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

why, because you like A-Ha, KOD, and MBV.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, that works!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:26 (twenty-three years ago)

and your reco's about the chameleons.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree most often with Ned Raggett. His top "136 albums of the 90's" is awesome. I mean the Young Gods?! C'mon, that kicks ass and you know it.

Juan (Juan), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Personally I think the best influence was hinted at with Tom's and Stevo's acknowledgements -- a group, by no means monolithic, dedicated to sharp takes on current music that moves them (or alternately annoys). It's a facility I've missed for a while and regret losing, though I hope to regain it.

The Young Gods, however, do indeed kick ass. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, didn't we just do this thread?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s influenced the interior design of my apartment

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:43 (twenty-three years ago)

well it's probably about time you tidied it then chaki

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I personally take Ned, Sterling, Siegbran and sundar as my saints. I respect (if not totally agree with) Tom, nabisco, mark s and hstencil. I think the only poster I actually dread dealing with it the dreaded c*lum r*bert.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Dan Perry and geeta are also on my love list.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The only poster whose recommendation has resulted in me buying a record is Curt Gould (the record in question being by Margo Guryan). The rest of you, entertaining as you are, couldn't sell me a 6-CD box set of unreleased Kevin Shields material.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually that's far from the truth but that line popped into my head and I had to say it.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

a lot of you ppl are having an influence in what I buy at times: I think josh talked abt bill evans and that made me buy 'conversations with myself' (though that's in the 'to listen' pile).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:03 (twenty-three years ago)

haha you are forgetting trife and his catastrophic influence on the posting styles of jess and josh haha

artiste, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

we're forgetting ethan and his conviction that we are all secretly grand wizards of the Ku Klux Klowns.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, give me a reason, dickface

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 26 November 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

to be fair i've always stolen my personality, not just now

boxcubed (boxcubed), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 08:21 (twenty-three years ago)

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 08:26 (twenty-three years ago)

who cuss like me; who just don't give a fuck like me
who dress like me; walk, talk and act like me
and just might be the next best thing but not quite me!
