school me on the term "rockist"

I see the terms "rockist" and "jazzist" thrown around here, does that just mean, like "rock-centric taste" and "jazz-centric taste"?

And what if I'm into rap? Please say that doesn't make me "rapist".

Rockist is just ILX slang for "cool", it's like "dark", only for the 2k2.

rockist is an attitude rather than relating to rock.

the impression i've gathered after witnessing it's use, but missing it's initial introduction is that a rockist is all about music from a rock point of view.

potential important characteristics...

-LPs are king
-Concerts
-Manly (unless she's playing the bass or she was a member of the Runaways at one point.)
-All hail the scales.

can people scratch some of these off and/or add some more?

i'm a deranged idiot sometimes.

my point on some of these should have been elaborated on...

-LPs are king as opposed to how singles might be more imporant to Danceists...

-Concerts are loud and artist-centric... as opposed to how classic music might be a score for a movie or play or dance music, while somewhat of a DJ hero culture exists, is mostly about getting fucked up and going off.

-All hail the scales. Rockers give a lot of respect to traditional rhythm and blues and known scales and tunings and technical setup, while some other genres might throw that right out of the water...

Asking what rockist means is totally rockist.

original bgm, Tuesday, 26 November 2002 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

intimations of objectivity
one eye on longevity/importance ("you think that will still be
played in 20 years?")
importance of meaning
focus on individual genius rather than incremental scene advances by many different people

the canon

Here. Read this and be either enlightened or horrified. I myself admit to rockist tendencies, but this guy is so over the top even I feel creepy thinking about it.

What happens if you grew up a total rockist and love bunches of freaky electronic, jazz, hiphop, whatever?

Are you a polyrockist?

earlnash, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

no, archetypal rockist. the use of the word 'freaky' gave it away i'm afraid;)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)
