I'll plump for the title track, though the demo version was way better, and in that particular incarnation actually sounds like something Patti Smith would have written.

Probably their 3rd best cover art, after the first 2 albums.

Immediate vote for "Veteran".

This is tough, but I'm gonna stick with my gut and go with "Joan Crawford".

I don't even know what "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" sounds like and I don't think I want to. I just love the title.

one of their best collaborations with Michael Moorcock

i am prob gonna vote for "after dark," it just grooves. thought really hard about voting for "the pact" tho

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 21 October 2021 15:07 (three years ago) link

and "sole survivor" which is constantly in my head and reminds me of the perfect 1983 slasher film

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 21 October 2021 15:07 (three years ago) link

This is where, Brad, I admit that whenever you have enthusiasm about an album, any album, no matter who recorded it and when, I somehow immediately view through a lens that transforms it into some kind of 21st century emo-arena masterpiece and that always makes me happy.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 October 2021 15:10 (three years ago) link

This really is filled with a lot of likely candidates, but "Joan Crawford" was very specifically the one that took me from, "oh I like the songs they play on the classic rock station" to, "holy shit this band really is something special and needs to be investigated further".

A perfect album - and as such, super hard to vote within. I think I’ll go with the title track… or… but wait… no

The fact that they do not currently sell any official merch with this cover image on it is completely baffling and insane

What a great album. Haven't listened to it for years, but mouseovering the titles, each one plays in my brain. Nice to see the "Joan Crawford" love. "Chriiiiiiiiistiiiiiiina. Mother's home.", such a highlight, plus the way it segues into "Don't Turn Your Back" is a favorite.

the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Thursday, 21 October 2021 16:34 (three years ago) link

this is probably my favorite band but i only got this album last year. i think it was actually a negative ilx post that gave me the nudge, like the reasons the poster didn't like it made me think 'i must hear this NOW!!'

i think it's my second favorite album of theirs now, after Tyranny and Mutation. So thank you to whichever ilx0r dissed the synth sounds or w/e on this album.

it's almost halloween, time to crank böc and crush brews

can't choose/not voting/dont like polls etc but wholeheartedly endorse this sentiment^^^

honestly if anyone hasn't seen BOC live they are still great, a little state fair corny but dang it buck is still one of the most amazing guitarists on earth

i'm slowly getting into these guys because of ilx thread revives. just saw the joan crawford video, wow, deeply weird 'possession' vibes. it's been a long time since i heard music where i don't know what is up and i'm being surprised at every turn.

Really enjoyed that, at some point i really need to make a compilation of favorite BOC live versions on Youtube, rip em to mp3 or something. xxxp

Speaking of, I keep seeing that they've released a ton of the more recent live shows officially, are any of the particularly recommended?

you know i haven't really checked them out too much

eric's voice ain't so great anymore, buck's sounds like it's 1982 still

i should, there is usually a couple big buck guitar fireworks displays and they pull out real deep cuts, i saw them do an extended jam off "the vigil" from mirrors at the state fair and last time i saw them at the medina entertainment center (scott weiland died in the parking lot there is the sad notable fact) they did "before the kiss, a redcap" for as far as we could find the first in forever

Just curious, I've been tempted to pick one or two up, but I hesitated. I did spring for that '83 show that Real Gone reissued early in the year. That was great!

Probably the last band I camped out for tickets for, at the box office. Kinda miss those days!

So strange that it took their record label ten years to produce such an yawnsomely literal album cover.

It just seems like there SHOULD have been some early 80s horror movie something with a story somewhere in-between Altered States and Phantasm that BOC did the soundtrack. This record sounds like a soundtrack to such a film.

Also---though some might be scurred that "Don't Fear The Reaper" means Agents of Fortune is going soft time, it's one of their top-tier albums, pretty sure, though haven't heard them all yet. Career of Evil is a real good round-up too, with a fair amount ov creative cattle mutilation.
