emo-adjacent sometimes-rock album with some truly wild sound design drawing on game soundtracks, the prettiest & most hyperactive ends of edm, & gorgeous digital noise. it's apparently emerged out of the "digicore" scene which is hyperpop-adjacent i think? no idea what the distinction is yet. but it's easily one of the very best things to be at all associated with any of those
the general mood & eclecticism reminds me a fair bit of the 1975, just if they were less polished & went much wilder with sonic experimentation. it's really got that grand emotional bombast - the first two bloc party albums are brought to mind a little too? & then "search party" sounds like it's heavily drawing on the meadowlands, consciously or not.
