michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Fallacy and Fusion "The Groundbreaker"! UK rap single of the year that isn't by Blak Twang or Pitman!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

First album "From A To B" is their best. It has "Living By Numbers" and "World Of Water" on it as well as "Dead Fish (Don't Swim Home)."

Thank you very much ladies and gentlemen, you've been a marvellous audience, my name's Bobby Davro, and, hey, like Ol' Blue Eyes said...let me try agaaaaain! Goodnight.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 13:24 (twenty-three years ago)

if yer inerrested (and you should be) the bradock tune is actually called "cycles" and it's from the "forbidden fruit ep". god bless ya, google.

Scarface - "the Fix"
Best rap album of the year, and criminally ignored by ILM.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

How does Phrenology sound?

Programmed beats, straight up Bad Brains punkrock, dodgy soul ballad, more rock & roll, Revolution 9 style tape loops, great lyrics aplenty, Apache break, a beautiful song with Jill Scott, I love it. A surprising record for sure. Some Roots fans compare it to Kid A...

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, The Roots went the extra mile and a half on Phrenology. I had high expectations, which were met and exceeded on so many levels. The lyrics are WAY more personal and intense, and sonically it's one of the most diverse albums I've ever heard. I totally see the Kid A comparison, or I could even compare it to The Beatles in the way it's sonically-diverse-yet-conceptually-unified. Not just one of the best hip-hop albums of the past decade, one of the best albums of the past decade PERIOD.

Also, System of a Down's Steal This Album quite surprised me too. For an album of outtakes, it's quite intense and diverse. The song "Roulette" is the most restrained they've ever sounded, just voices and acoustic guitar and mellotron, and yet it's possibly the most powerful stuff they've ever done. Some of the songs are piss-your-pants hilarious, like "Chic N Stew". Yes, it's an outtake record...but it's also a very, very good outtake record. Plus, the packaging is hilarious.

AUDIO BULLIES 'We Dont Care' and 'Ego War'

for the uninitiated, bit like The Streets but with a bit of a Clash vibe - now dont that sound like a superb combo

whaddya mean NO?!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

so what tracks are particularly good on that roots album?

robin (robin), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Should I post my top 50 for 2002? I don't want to look like I'm spamming.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Busta Rhymes: Together (a Swizz Beatz production)

Jay K (Jay K), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

If the new Roots album is more like "The Next Movement" and less like "worthy yet dull standard Roots album track", then it could be a classic.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 28 November 2002 00:38 (twenty-three years ago)

they're obsessed with comparing themselves to classic rock albums. ?estlove calling D'Angelo's 'Voodoo' "black music's Dark Side Of The Moon"... riiight.

i hear that scarface record is mighty good. and who is pepe bradock?

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 28 November 2002 00:50 (twenty-three years ago)

well, the new today is the day is tops, if you like metal...

mike (ro)bott, Friday, 29 November 2002 04:19 (twenty-three years ago)
