Yeah, name'em. Because people who rock the fuck out to the max are my favorite people, and I'm always looking for new ones.

No Need to mention (because I already know): Black Flag, Fear, Turbonegro, Gluecifer, Hellacopters, Rev. Horton Heat, Supersuckers, Rye Coalition, Andrew WK (I'm drunk as a sunk right now, and listening to his album), AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Dio, Slayer, Ween, Ramones, the Stooges, the Monks, MC5, and Dr. John.

Well, let's have at it.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 05:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Black Sabbath, Ween, AC/DC, and the Ramones are the only ones who actually deserve to be in that list.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 05:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Proud of yourself? Should be. Because you're an elitist. You should make at least $100,00 a year just based on your opinions.

OK, now onto telling me about people who rock that I don't know about yet....

I'm not an elitist, I just think the others don't quite "rock the fuck out to the max".

Andrew,
Sorry, if I'm a little reactionary it's because this is my third night of absolutely no nutrition besides Rolling Rock and Glen Livet. I understand your stance.

Dyson,
Fu Manchu do rock the fuck out to the max. Now here's my F.M. story: My wife and I went into DC one night to see Phantom Planet, but when we got to the Black Cat, there was a line of 500 17-year-olds and a sign on the door that said "Sold Out". My wife, being the huge Jason Shwartzman (sp?) fan that she is, was really pissed, but since we both took the next day off, I said, "Let's see what's going on at the 9:30 club." So we walked the 4 blocks and saw a giant inflatable Jack Daniels entryway in front of the club. I asked the bouncer who was playing and at what price, he said, "Fu Manchu , and it's free if your 21+." So me and the missus went in, drank 2 J.D.'s Hard Colas each (free, included wit the gig) and watched Fu Manchu rock the fuck out. Best free show I've ever seen. Make's me glad to be 23 (bcuz it was a 21+ show).

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 06:01 (twenty-three years ago)

right now I'm listening to kyuss' fatso forgotso and damn, I do believe this rocks the fuck out to the max... diggin' it.

I'd also put props in for brother jt. check out "dosed and confused" for a slice of some of his live life w/ vibrolux...
they came and did a show in my town 'round '96.... played for almost 3 hrs and jt was a great sprawling mess...stripped down to his whities, falling off the chair, laying on his back working the wah pedal with one leg streeetched out to the side... as I recall he had hurt his hand was pretty much just hammering at his guitar and shaking his tambourine (in a really rockin way) and preached the psychedelic gospel.

nick ring (nick ring), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 06:23 (twenty-three years ago)

you can say what you want about slayer, andrew wk and the monks, but claiming that they "don't quite rock the fuck out to the max" doesn't really make any sense.

voss, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 07:34 (twenty-three years ago)

the song "cathode ray sunshine" by dark tranquility rocks out 2 the max.

brains (cerybut), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 07:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Slayer are kind of past their prime. It was all downhill after they stopped the satan thing and wrote songs about serial killers instead. But Dio! He'll never quit. The guy was probably around to tell jesus that chicks dig the beautiful rocker hair and he still keeps going. And he lives in a castle! Maybe with a moat, even!

i thought this was going to be a (good) c eddy question asking us how narrowly we are defining 'rock'

Has Andrew WK changed his clothes this year? God, I can SMELL his music.

Anyway, when I ponder the phrase "rocks the fuck out to the max", the first image that popped into my head was Fishbone lead singer Angelo Moore. If he doesn't "rock the fuck out to the max", nobody does.

nickalicious, Wednesday, 27 November 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, you should check out Bionic. Best to see them live, but their new alb (Deliverance, on Sound King Records) smokes like an overheated lime green '74 dodge dart swinger. They are currently on tour in Canada with NY band Bad Wizard.
But if you like to feel the power of guitar...Bionic's where it's at.

I'm kinda partial to Zeke, Black Market Baby (some of it), the Dictators (again, some of it, the live album's the rock-the-fuck-outest), some Pagans, Suicide Commandos, Detroit (Mitch Ryder, not the Detroit Wheels, though), Dead Boys (again, live is best), Dickies (ditto), Weirdos...I know, most of this is old, but nonetheless rocks mightily on record.

matt riedl (veal), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Racebannon rock the fuck to death.

Black Sabbath, Ween, AC/DC, and the Ramones are the only ones who actually deserve to be in that list.

Motorhead

But for more recent bands: Absu are on a roll at the moment.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 27 November 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

You probably know some of these, maybe all...here is a few glancing over my collection.

Jesus Lizard
Melvins
Helmet (first two)
Mule
Laughing Hyenas (their last one isn't that good)
Tar (all but the last one...it is a bit different)
The Contortions
Radio Birdmen
Wipers (mostly 80s records, not the 90s ones)
New Bomb Turks (the first one...the rest I didn't think were nearly as good)
Mudhoney (earlier is most rocking or that A/B sides set is great)
Dinosaur Jr. "Your Living All Over Me" -- forget what you know if you don't like them, this is the one to check.
Glenn Branca (symphony 1 & 5)
Flipper
Husker Du (esp. New Day Rising & Zen Arcade)
The Effigies
The Birthday Party (esp. Hee Haw or Prayers on Fire)
Kyuss
Butthole Surfers (the records on Touch & Go or Alt. Tenacles)
D.O.A "Bloodied but Unbowed"
Agent Orange (their first album is really good...)
Scratch Acid
The Germs

What Rye Coalition album is the one to check out first? I have to admit in that ACDC/Rye Coalition thread, I really haven't checked out Rye C., I was only thinking about ACDC with Bon Scott.

Dude, but if they AREN'T rocking the fuck out to the max in his world, don't you want to live in that world? It's a world where THOSE people are the like indie wussbags! It's a great thing!

Helltime, you should listen to Mensen, you'd like them.

I was listening to a new band from Portland the other day called the Hunches. They quite rock the fuck out to the max. Listen to the song Explosion from their Yes. No. Shut It. album on In The Red Records.

Either that or it's John Christ from Danzig. In that case, "Oh, MuthAAAAH!!!"
