Weed, Whites & Wine v. Reds, Vitamin C. & Cocaine: The Willin' v. Truckin' Poll

Aside from the question in the title, the two are travel songs. The former is more 'Shelter from the Storm' plea; the latter self-mythologizing travelogue. Whatever criteria you want, best, most road weary, etc.

Willin’ because it’s the other song that mentions Tucson

Chappies banging dustbin lids together (President Keyes), Monday, 3 January 2022 23:36 (three years ago)

Willin', because it's better.

Everybody Loves Ramen (WmC), Tuesday, 4 January 2022 00:30 (three years ago)

I’m not much of a Deadhead, but I love really wordy songs and “Truckin’” is a good one imo. “Willin’” obviously excellent as well, and I’m surprising myself by choosing the Dead.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 4 January 2022 01:00 (three years ago)

Agreed, Willin' is better. That chorus. Truckin' is good too but is somewhat tainted for me because it sort of evokes or encourages the dopiest side of the whole Deadhead thing.

Tho "I'd like to get some sleep before I travel/ But if you got a warrant, I guess you're gonna come in" is still funny.

yeah a little surprised I’m inclined to go with Truckin, partic w Bob being taking lead vocals

and as much as I adore both songs I don’t think either would make my top ten for either bands

Willin' - better for crying in yr beer after a breakup
Truckin' - better for a road trip song

Precious, Grace, Hill & Beard LTD. (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 10 January 2022 01:18 (three years ago)

I mean there's versions of Truckin that are absolutely cosmic. and lyrically it's some of the best they ever got -- to turn all those road stories into a crisp relatable tune with breezy hippie sentiments in the breaks, very neat trick. terrific tune.

but Willin' is Willin'.

That was where I was landing - my head says Truckin' but my heart is Willin'.

I only just discovered Little Feat last year and Willin' became the crux of my brief obsession so that one, also the Grateful Dead are terrible, just accept it

Wonder how many were voting for the 1st album version of "Willin'" versus the one on Sailin' Shoes.

Halfway there but for you, Tuesday, 11 January 2022 03:28 (three years ago)

let’s be honest- this was a “Willin’” vs. The Grateful Dead poll

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 12 January 2022 15:15 (three years ago)

There are Dead songs I'd take over "Willin'," tho not many. ("Uncle John's Band," "Ripple") There also aren't many (any?) Little Feat songs I'd take over it, so I think it's mostly that "Willin'" is just a top-tier classic.

missed this poll but probably would've voted "truckin'"

roflrofl fight (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 12 January 2022 15:53 (three years ago)

If I'd taken live versions into account, I would've voted trucking, but I stuck with studio recordings and voted willin'

Nice poll!

We could also do “weed wine & whites” vs “reds, Vitamin C and cocaine”—which combo better for long hauls?
