If it’s Perlon they don’t do digital but the albums generally get a CD release

I am using your worlds, Friday, 11 March 2022 16:46 (two years ago) link

Although since the vinyl came out last month maybe not in this case? The 3lp might be too long for a single cd. Just speculating here

It is - I got the last on CD a few years after release; not sure whether to expect a CD release for this one in the next 6 months or so? The vinyl is apparently out now but I'm trying resist re finances

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 11 March 2022 16:52 (two years ago) link

I feel you technopolis. I spent too much time trying to figure it out. It appears Perlon doesn’t always release their albums on CD (including their last album release, for bruno pronsato) and typically release the cd and LP at once. Ordering a 3LP when shipping costs are fast inflating is no small sacrifice…

New Tony Price album is very good

In late 2020, Tony Price found himself stuck in Los Angeles, unable to fly back to his native Toronto because of Covid-19 restrictions. But he found another way. A former radio DJ Price knew was selling their 1981 Lincoln Continental Mark VI, so he bought the car, intending to drive back to Canada in style. He found a bag of cassette tapes—homemade mixes and radio show recordings from the late '80s replete with motorik Detroit techno, thumping Chicago house and advertisements for products that only exist in memory—stashed in the trunk. The tapes and the old car made a perfect match, and Price played the cassettes constantly during the long drive from California to Ontario.

After his road trip, Price scoured the tapes for samples, pulling together what would become his new album.

Humanitarian Pause (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 16 October 2024 07:19 (two months ago) link

I've found a lot of this stuff really uncomfortable the past few days. There's a sense that he was forgiven by many because he was good at being charming and fun as well as talented, and I don't dispute all that. But that's exactly how people get away with things. Szatan has posted on his socials about how Jackmaster gave him time in his early career. This isn't any different than people being beholden to the power and influence of Diddy and R Kelly, is it? An uncharitable reading of the situation is of a tastemaker with power who used their reputation to court and win over people. "What can you do, he's a pal." If someone is known for being fun, and you challenge that, you're known for not being fun. It's hard to speak out and say these things in the moment.

At the same time - he apologized, he was sincere by all accounts, he took steps to put it right. What more can you ask for? Yet it feels uneasy to me. He didn't get the full Ten Walls treatment. He was releasing EPs on high profile labels this year such as Crosstown Rebels. Did he really suffer the consequences of his actions, and what would or wouldn't have been enough? I don't know and I won't pretend to have an answer to that but I can see why his death is raising difficult conversations nobody has wanted to have for six years.

He could sync records together that sounded good. He admitted to sexual misconduct. I interviewed him in 2009 and saw him tweet homophobic words in 2010 yet I still repped for him afterwards. Am I any more or less of hypocrite than the industry that seemed to have deemed him too big to fail?

I'm sorry for all the people who knew him personally. He touched people's lives and made a difference. But I don't like the handwaving away of what he admitted to, with the inference it was substance abuse that made him do what he did at Love Saves The Day. It's not easy to make records sound as good as he did but it's quite easy to not commit sexual impropriety.

I'm sorry for the loss felt by people who loved him. I wish this conversation had been opened up at the time.

Did he really suffer the consequences of his actions

he did.

the types of places he was playing massively changed and he literally never played on the circuit he used to ever again. Of course, he did resurrect his career but it was playing events he probably would not have played had he had the choice and i think this greatly impacted on him. he was also estranged from a lot of the people who had been his friends and peers earlier in his career.

it's a very sad and dark tale.

ISS010 strikes a chord with both factions of Skee Mask's fan base: the production nerds and the DJ set devotees. For the heads, it delivers his signature package of intricately layered sound design, dense percussion, and a wash of echo and reverb. But this time, the DJ devotees get their due as well. ISS010 marks a shift from Skee Mask’s breakbeat explorations to a more dance floor-focused sound, reflecting the heavily house and techno-infused energy of his current DJ sets. The seven-tracker blends syncopated rhythms with gorgeous melodies, weaving flashes of dubstep and ambient textures into rave-ready form.

Grime-indebted beats on tracks like “The Bills” could as readily host an MC as send a Detroit loft party into overdrive, while “Double Standard” combines shimmering synths with propulsive drums, making it well suited for introspective home listening or peak-time club play. In a major year for Skee Mask, ISS010 was a record that engaged both body and soul. - Fahad Akinsanya

wow, i think this is the first time saer's ever posted something i already knew and liked. although i don't follow the techno/house of the past thread very closely, you've probably posted stuff i already liked there

Thanks Karl, its possible one or two might have sneaked in there.

I'd heard a couple of Skancke's records before but didn't really connect, this one has a charm though
