Destroy: Lalena, Mellow Yellow, Atlantis (the song that soundtracks Billy Batts' murder in Goodfellas), cosmic wheels (sic?), a lot of the dross on FAFTAG.
Also, how much do Momus and Stuart Murdoch owe to Donovan's lilting, fey vocal style?

No, really, search everything up to Open Road, it's all classic to me, even the most hippy dippy crap. "Hurdy Gurdy Man", "Season of the Witch", and "Barabajagal" are my favorites, though.

Seach: "Barabajagel" (Proto T-Rex?), "Catch The Wind" (twee!), "Atlantis", "Lalena", "Hurdy Gurday Man", "Season Of The Witch" (Dr.John made an excelent cover!), "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", "Sunshine Superman"
Destroy: "Mellow Yellow", "Epstile To Dippy"

The use of 'Season of the Witch' over the closing credits of 'To Die For' almost makes that movie worth watching.

hurdy gurdy man, mellow yeallow, sunshine superman, barabajagal.
all with tons of extra tracks.
the ones which aint all airy hippy nonsense are somewhat fab ..
there are some serious grooves hidden throughout, esp the barabajagal track .. whoa.
season of the witch is indeed ace and creepy.
and i'm sure the opening few bars of Get Thy bearings sax line has been sampled ?
if not then why not ..

Open Road is a real classic - and surprisingly diverse - album.
Hurdy Gurdy Man is nice too, as an album.

destroy/dud: his autobiography. admittedly I only skimmed it at a bookstore but it seemed like a weird mix of hippie/showbiz jive.

Looks like the Maharishi really set a fire under Donny's butt!

I saw him stoically limp from one venue to the next, day and night, and do his little stoic one-man-one-guitar-act at the 1998 Pori Jazz fest -- to the largely indifferent -- and (should I say) "spare" -- audiences, as I recall. I also recall staying in front of the stage on at least on a couple of ocaasions to listen to him. (Had never heard him live in my life, up to that point, nor had heard that many of his records - only the one that has the words "gift", "flower", "garden" and "from" in its title, I guess). Must say that he did sing'n'play on autopilot, sort of. Still, for the first few times it was fairly fascinating to hear those pretty well-known titles from the man's own mouth. Even if the wind blew some of it away over the open, and rather desolate, field. Or the words got all quite blurry in those hangars with terrible-some acoustics... And then, not too long after that, I saw on VH1 that little co-operation with ...which girl group was it again? That must've been a first major thing for him, in commercial terms, after ...the Butthole Surfers cover or what?
