It starts getting interesting. Flipper?!? Can't recall if I ever heard Bailter Space. A Bettie Serveert tape was one of the first things I bought on this label. (I have no idea who Fire In The Kitchen are/were, though.)

Apologies to Railroad Jerk's "Raise The Plow," which I missed and should've been included as a choice here.

Feel sorry for any of these who aren't Slanted & Enchanted.

that is iirc the best thinking fellers record

STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 January 2022 13:19 (three years ago)

Golden era for the label. I love Bailter Space (amazing live band btw) and yes that TFUL282 is great, but 11:11 has gotta be one of my favourite guitar records of the 90s and carried such a heavy emotional clout for me back then. 'Off To One Side' still gives me goosebumps tbh.

Otoh I don't think I've ever heard Circle X or Tommy Keene or Fire In The Kitchen. Were the last one Cosloy's own band or am I misremembering?

Bullet Lavolta, haven't thought of that band in forever

This is harder than I expected, Slanted would have been an easy vote 10 years ago, but I've really grown to love that Come record (11:11) and that's a good TFUL282 record, though not my favorite of theirs.

i only know of bullet lavolta as clay tarver's pre-chavez band

Circle X

chr1sb3singer, Thursday, 27 January 2022 15:35 (three years ago)

Oh man, some great EPs here - Bettie Serveert, Bailter Space, Tommy Keene. I liked bits of Come, Eitzel and Toiling Midgets, too. Never got the love for Pavement, though.

Voted Tommy Keene, that EP is power pop perfection.

Thinking Fellers by a mile for me here

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Thursday, 27 January 2022 16:52 (three years ago)

OK maybe 500 yards ahead of Slanted, not a mile

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Thursday, 27 January 2022 16:52 (three years ago)

I gotta say tho I love both, putting side by side like that, I think I "prefer" Watery Domestic--love the guitar on it, songs are perfect. S&E is great too but I dunno. Something about the concise nature of the rooster

Is this the thread to show off my "Shoot the Singer" tattoo?

No Xmas For Jonchaies (Tom Violence), Thursday, 27 January 2022 18:53 (three years ago)

Fire In The Kitchen featured the guy from Tono-Bungay iirc and were a pretty decent band

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 27 January 2022 19:02 (three years ago)

Watery, Domestic is perfect. If it were 8 songs instead of 4 it'd be the easy vote here.

and R.I.P. Tommy Keene

Mother of All Saints is a desert island record for me.

this song used to get stuck in my head all the time

anyways I go for watery domestic thx

clouds (peanutbuttereverysingleday), Thursday, 27 January 2022 20:52 (three years ago)

two weeks pass...

The only one I've heard all the way through is the Thinking Fellers album and it's pretty weak in comparison to Lovelyville. Might just abstain.

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 14 February 2022 02:13 (three years ago)

OK as a TFUL282 fanatic I see yr point altho I would never think that, to me this record is where they really came into their own

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Monday, 14 February 2022 02:15 (three years ago)

also unperson you might like some aspects of Bailterspace? basically a NZ version of Loop in some ways imho

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Monday, 14 February 2022 02:16 (three years ago)

that is iirc the best thinking fellers record

― STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson)

also let me send up the BradNelson batsignal here and say that most people seem to rate Strangers From The Universe a bit higher but I will happily talk your (or anyone's) ears off in the artist thread(s) about why the last one is the best

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Monday, 14 February 2022 02:19 (three years ago)

also, when the FUCK are these TFUL282 records gonna get reissued? starting to think it might be a band issue.

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Monday, 14 February 2022 02:20 (three years ago)

hmmmm don't know if this is "real" or not

I like "Mother of All Saints" but I think it would have been better if they resequenced all the weird fart joke bits to the end like they did with "Lovelyville" and the "Crowded Diaper" bonus tracks. This is a pretty easy vote for "S+E" for me.

o. nate, Monday, 14 February 2022 16:02 (three years ago)

xp omg that is great news, thank you

bad milk blood robot (sleeve), Monday, 14 February 2022 16:03 (three years ago)

I like Funeral Pudding quite a bit (Waited Too Long! And omg - Heavy Head!), But yeah, Strangers is the one I've listened too most. Can't remember much about Mother of All Saints
