Do i wanna see Clairo with Arlo Parks for $62 at Radio City Music Hall?

that seems high to me? like I would definitely for half that for an SRO show and $40 would feel reasonable but uh

Spiritualized in Austin, April 1. It will be my first concert since the pandemic began and likely my last concert in Texas before moving. I hope it happens and doesn’t get canceled and the numbers are low enough so I can just bliss out.

Pretty factual actually. If you refer to covid durably waning, no one can predict exactly how the next endemic phase will play out, but all short-term scenarios include concerts.
― Nabozo, Thursday, 24 February 2022 06:39 (three years ago)
Have tickets for Boy Harsher, Bikini Kill & Henry Rollins, feeling good about the timing of all of them.

separately, not as a single bill unfortunately
getting back into concerts
after what period of cessation
Pretty factual actually... all short-term scenarios include concerts
are there literally no short-term scenarios that don't involve concerts? would that not be unprecedented in the entirety of human history?

saw Helena Deland and the Weather Station last night. first week of March is crazy: Gang of Four, Ryley Walker and Bitchin Bajas, Wet Leg, Minneapolis Uranium Club, and BadBadNotGood. Jonathan Richman and Will Oldham and Matt Sweeney were that week as well, but cancelled sadly.
aftermarket sales are soft, I've bought tickets for a few shows recently for half of face, so keep an eye out for that.

wanted to see artist X play for $Y at Z venue but found the ticketing service charge a $Y/2 service fee and said no thanks.
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 25 February 2022 03:40 (three years ago)
Seeing Gang of Four on Tuesday, I revived a thread to mention it. First big show since Covid. And yes, ticketing service charges can eat all our shorts.
― Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Friday, 25 February 2022 05:23 (three years ago)
I thought about seeing artist X play for $Y at Z venue but it was a Ticketmaster "dynamic pricing" event which meant that after a presale of only CAPACITY(Z)/100 tickets, Ticketmaster raised the prices to 3 * $Y because of "extreme demand"
― Elvis Telecom, Friday, 25 February 2022 05:24 (three years ago)
those fuckers will do that. Basically every ticket is about a third more expensive than it was before.
― i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Friday, 25 February 2022 06:02 (three years ago)
Fucking TM. SeatGeek, AXS and Dice doesn't do that dynamic pricing bullshit, correct?
Just to give you an idea how bad it can be, for Paul McCartney's latest stadium tour (probably the most expensive concert out there), compared to other stops that had to be purchased through MLB.com, Ticketmaster sales for MetLife Stadium more or less doubled the price, so decent seats that were $150 elsewhere became $300, and even nosebleed seats in the highest tier became split between $100 and $70 versus $30+ elsewhere.
― birdistheword, Friday, 25 February 2022 06:10 (three years ago)
(also, those prices are before fees)
― birdistheword, Friday, 25 February 2022 06:11 (three years ago)
AXS is owned by the garbage people at AEG so of course they're doing it. I first ran into this trying to buy tickets for Wet Leg at the Fonda theater (AXS venue) here in LA. Face value on the tickets was $25 but at the date/time of both the pre-sale and general sale, no tickets were available at face + fees - all the tickets appeared on AXS' own secondary market site for $60-$90. McCartney at SoFi stadium was similar, all the tickets appeared on the secondary market at 3-4x markup.
I think this is where I draw the line. Months and months of AEG and LiveNation owned venues in LA all screaming to save their stages...
― Elvis Telecom, Friday, 25 February 2022 09:54 (three years ago)
I’m going to see Amyl and the Sniffers in DC in late April for $30. (Can’t remember the venue and need to pay my friend back for the ticket.) We’ll see what it’s like.

I've never seen Elton John live, so I just checked to see what a ticket would cost to attend the Atlanta show on his final tour.
Um, $584 for center floor, $120 for nosebleeds.
Too rich for my blood. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" probably sounds better on record anyway lol.

So Bad Bunny tickets for a 20,000 seat arena in DC in March largely sold before I was aware and tickets for the show are now available only on stubhub for $200 plus in nosebleeds and over a $1,000 for better seats. Bad Bunny later added a August show at the bigger Nats Park baseball stadium and wife and I splurged and got $100 tickets for that.

A couple of weeks ago a buddy and I were discussing whether things were Back to Normal on the way to a show. He said he didn't think so, because people he knew were going out less, or were less inclined to go out. I told him that maybe Covid just happened to coincide with us officially crossing the threshold to "old," and that even if things were totally normal we might be more likely to just stay in, anyway. Certainly I noticed, both due to contemporary circumstances but no doubt due to desperate coffer filling that the price of concert tickets, already on their way up, spiked noticeably. My wife was going to buy tickets to see the Chicks, but with fees it was something like $350 for two OK tickets. Then we were going to get John Mulaney tickets, and the cost was creeping up to similar heights. We're currently teetering on the brink of buying "Weird" Al tickets (as a sort of final family outing before our older one goes to college), but four tickets to that easily hits $500 or higher. Bleh.

I'm seeing Godspeed in Berkeley on Friday. I was surprised it wasn't sold out, though, I think this show went on sale a long time ago and was rescheduled at least once plus they also added an SF date.
― akm, Wednesday, 2 March 2022 20:21 (three years ago)
I keep hoping that at some point the market is just going to stop supporting these insane ticket prices, but $500 for Weird Al (whom I absolutely love) tells me this still isn't happening.

They all try to sell insurance for 20% on top and I assume it's almost impossible to make a claim, like I doubt Ticketmaster is going to accept a picture of a positive COVID test or a check engine light.
― papal hotwife (milo z), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 21:55 (three years ago)
i went to see audiobooks in brighton last week for £8.50 which sounds okay, but i also got a dose of covid while i was there so you'd also need to add in about £500 of work i've had to cancel :(

I dumbly shelled out for insurance for Big Ears in case I had work commitments but it turned out Big Ears has an official reselling website. And then the insurance doesn’t cover “you have to work”.
― Johnny Mathis der Maler (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 3 March 2022 00:09 (three years ago)
the insurance on concert tickets is ridiculously hard to file claims on from people I know who have had to do it.
my 'insurance' is the pre-knowledge of having to sell and knowing how to navigate the re-sale markets

So, my first post-easing-of-COVID-restrictions show experience: Genesis Owusu at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. 3 songs in, the crowd was going so hard that the floor literally collapsed and they had to cancel the rest of the show. It was great while it lasted! No one hurt, thankfully. He stopped the show real quick and everyone stayed calm.

― Murgatroid, Wednesday, 9 March 2022 23:29 (three years ago)
Part of it may be "dynamic pricing" driving everything up, thanks to higher-than-normal demand, but it also reminds me of Liam Gallagher's nutty rant about making back everything he "lost" during COVID. ("You don't think I'm going to claw all that back?!") Granted he was talking about slashing his employees' checks, but it still comes to mind.
FWIW, Gang of Four's tickets seem to be relatively cheap at most venues, hovering around $30 after modest fees, but thanks to Dice's dynamic pricing, it shot past $50 in NYC.
― birdistheword, Wednesday, 9 March 2022 23:54 (three years ago)
Tickets for Sons of Kemet and Low at Webster Hall are $25 apiece. Two tickets with fees to both shows are $155. The fees for two tickets on AXS is the price of one ticket. the fuck is this nonsense.
