Ritorna, Madonna: Voting and Scoring Thread for ILM's All-Time Video Poll (Voting Deadline: March 14)

Scoring instructions are buried in the other thread, so I thought having them up top would be helpful.

You can vote for anywhere from 5 to 50 videos. The scoring is based on the old Pazz & Jop system: multiply how many videos you vote for by 10, and that's how many points you have to split up. The maximum for any one video is 30 points (presumably your #1 if they're ranked), the minimum is 5.

So if you vote for 10 videos, you get 100 points; 25 = 250 points; 40 = 400 points; etc., etc. One minor difference is that the more videos you vote for, your non-#1s are worth more. On a 10-video ballot, the nine runners-up would average to 7.78 points per video (100-30)/9; on a 40-video ballot, the 39 runners-up would average to 9.49 points per video (400-30/39).

Non-ranked ballots are easy; just indicate it's non-ranked and I'll assign 10 points to every video.

If you want to allot points but hate math, let me know; I'll suggest a way to score your ballot. Here's how I'm scoring my 50-video ballot (500 points):

Top 10 (ranked) - 180 points - 30/25/22/20/18/13/13/13/13/13
Second 10 (unranked) - 110 points - 11 each
Third 10 (unranked) - 90 points - 9 each
Fourth 10 (unranked) - 70 points - 7 each
Last 10 (unranked) - 50 points - 5 each

Here's a possibility for scoring a ranked 25-video ballot (250 points):

Top 10 (ranked) - 145 points - 30/22/17/15/11/10/10/10/10/10
Second 10 (unranked) - 80 points - 8 each
Last 5 (unranked) - 25 points - 5 each

Waving, not drowning; reminding, not groveling....I have next week off, so it will really help to stick to the 14th as the deadline. There are two of us--Viborg has been helping the whole way--keeping separate spreadsheets, so hopefully the tally will be quick and accurate. Every poll I've done on my own, I botched something counting up votes.

Just shy of halfway to (my arbitrarily selected benchmark of) more or less meaningful results. Monday is the deadline--you don't want me voting eight times.

I totally missed the nominations part of this thing. I note there is a write-in option, which can obviously be used as late-date nom surrogate, so as such I hereby signal my upcoming high votes for these three non-nominated videos:

I've just gone through the spreadsheet and listed favourite videos I already know, including the handful I nominated. It's not like I was going to undertake an immersive course on 45 Years of Music Video. I will, however, watch all the videos I don't know in the countdown, I'm curious about the consensus picks.

Pretty much exactly how I vote in every one of these: I vote for what I already know and love. When the results are posted, I may look into a couple of things I'm not familiar with. Or may not--boundless curiosity died a decade or two ago.

On the road today, so there are a couple of ballots in my inbox I haven't had a chance to acknowledge...Doing well; just shy of 30. Someone asked about consensus above, and up near the top, at least, there actually is; I'd tallied through 21 ballots, and the #1 and #3 had both gotten votes from almost half the voters. (#2 was fewer voters, higher scores.) Looks like a Top 40--the #40 right now has 4 votes.

Sent a thrown-together ballot, mostly from the noms list with a few others I thought of at the end. Looking forward to the results!

sent a short ballot. videos were of utmost importance to me from ages like 6-13, then ceased to be pretty abruptly, so I tried to vote in that spirit.

upon re-viewings "Bachelorette" gave me the biggest "landslide #1" feeling (though I went with a different Homogenic vid)

I felt proud I narrowed down my ballot to only three Bjork videos - she's by far my favorite artist, video-wise. That might be an interesting stat if someone feels like calculating it after the results: which artists get the most points

I guess it’s one of those “cool if you’re stoned” videos (which suits the music, ha)

On first viewing, I missed that everything that the entire moving landscape is a visual representation of things happening in the music, like a scrolling graphic score.
