What did Don think of these tunes?

he murdered Glenn for it decades later

i pick "You Belong", but why did Frey always sound congested when he sang.

also i mostly pick it due to the saxophone.

Deez NFTs (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 27 April 2022 17:17 (three years ago)

he plays every instrument on that one except the sax

Guess he doesn't belong to the woodwinds

Alfred, "You Belong to the City" seems like a candidate for your list of songs about night. "Living in a river of darkness beneath the neon light" — the guy was a poet!

this thread inspired by my dad binging Miami Vice rn and the Prodigal Son ep coming on

He can't hide his Midwestern accent on "City."

I'd give "City" a B -- pleasant techno-noir.

Love the sax in "You Belong to the City." An instrumental version actually pops up in a funny episode of Married...with Children.

pleasant techno-noir

A nice turn of phrase. It's better than "King of Hollywood" anyway.

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 21:39 (three years ago)

GLENN: UTIs are better than "King of Hollywood"!

DON: Well, yeah.

Would have been an easy "City", except listening to "Smuggler's Blues" (as part of the listening thread a few years back) made me realize how it manages to be the wordiest 12-bar blues in a pretty impressive way. Anyway, these two are Frey's finest hour.

One belongs to the city, one belongs to the grave

I got a feeling Glenn knew a bit more about 'smuggling' than the average song writer. Got to say both it and "you belong to the city' both fit really well in the show in how they were used.

I was thinking there was one thread with some epic Frey discussion on these tunes before.

Sure, but what happens if you expand the parameters of this poll to include The Heat Is On?

Even though he had nothing to do with it, the best Glenn Frey Miami Vice tune might be Russ Ballard's "Voices."
