Song sounds like Perfume Genius. He co-wrote it? Video was directed by Cody from the Ssion. He also drew the cover to Fever to Tell and is an old friend of the band. He once said I look like his father.

Yeah, I definitely think PG had a hand in the songwriting here. Not complaining. Happy it's 10x better than anything from Mosquito. Hope the rest of the album is up to that level.

It was recorded on Earth Day a while back but it finally got a release.

speaking of extracurricular activities, always wondered why Stop the Virgens was never released. I saw it at St. Anns in Brooklyn. Actually paid extra to get a special poster which I was never sent. But the show was amazing and thought for sure it'd get a soundtrack or video release but...nothing?

Every time I read the thread title I think it's YYY covering New Edition.

Same here. Was wondering who would replace the Greek chorus of Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike in the YYY's version, and I guess we'll never know.

I'm missing the guitars and raw energy, this sounds too much like Amy Winehouse and a ballad to have replay value.
Then again I stopped listening to YYY after Fever to Tell / Show your bones so I'm out of touch with their work.

It's been a long time since they recorded anything like Date With The Night, and that's a shame because they were extremely good at it. I'm not in love with either of these new tracks, but I'm relieved they're 1000x better than anything on Mosquito.

Finally got around to playing this album over the weekend. Not the sound I go for when in the mood for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It sort of went in one ear and out the other, it was just too mellow overall.

I agree. It's not their best album by any means but a huge improvement on Mosquito - really enjoying "Wolf", "Fleez" and "Different Today" particularly and the singles are great too.

Grant them this: no two YYY albums sound alike.

After two listens this is a good, often very good album.

I’ll never begrudge a band/artist for changing up their approach, but I do wish the YYYs hadn’t pulled the cord on their classic sound so early.

"Spitting of the edge of the world" more or less seems to be the band choosing to subsume their identity into that of Perfume Genius: like, have the guy contribute to yr calling card song on yr new album by all means, but maybe try to not have that song sound exactly his most famous tune…

Fleez is so great, and not JUST because of the ESG quote or because it’s about ESG but okay a lot because of that. Rhythmically, texturally, energy-wise I think it lives up to its subject

Fever and It's Blitz! are the best for me but I seem to have never knowingly listened to Mosquito

SO this is often okay to good. The okay stuff consists of pleasant atmospheric nothings for which I don't go to YYYs ("Lovebomb," "Blacktop"). The good stuff is in that middle stretch from "Wolf" to "Burning."

It's Blitz! is still my favorite. I actually liked Mosquito quite a bit (except for the title track).

I think what bothered me about this album is the spoken word stuff but I did enjoy the a lot more the second time around. The singles are great.
