A bit mellow for a come back single but I like it/

Bee OK, Thursday, 2 June 2022 02:20 (three years ago)

Cool ass cover.

Bee OK, Thursday, 2 June 2022 02:21 (three years ago)

It's a very cool cover. 8 songs is a short album (it's also fewer than one song per year since their last one). Hopefully they're all as good as the first song!

I like the video, it's really creative:

subject matter expert (morrisp), Thursday, 2 June 2022 02:47 (three years ago)

Song sounds like Perfume Genius. He co-wrote it? Video was directed by Cody from the Ssion. He also drew the cover to Fever to Tell and is an old friend of the band. He once said I look like his father.

dan selzer, Thursday, 2 June 2022 03:22 (three years ago)

Yeah, I definitely think PG had a hand in the songwriting here. Not complaining. Happy it's 10x better than anything from Mosquito. Hope the rest of the album is up to that level.

She's at her best when she repeat shit.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 August 2022 22:08 (three years ago)

kinda like a better executed "sacrilege"

ufo, Monday, 15 August 2022 22:23 (three years ago)

Beat is the pilooski edit of Beggin ot am I crazy?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 15 August 2022 22:37 (three years ago)

they cite the original "beggin'" in the press release & its writers are credited (for fairly obvious reasons)

ufo, Monday, 15 August 2022 22:41 (three years ago)

These two songs are fucking great.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:55 (three years ago)

wow this one is a banger

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 20:57 (three years ago)

The video is cool af.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Tuesday, 16 August 2022 20:58 (three years ago)

She's at her best when she repeat shit.

Wait, they don't love you like I love you.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Tuesday, 16 August 2022 21:13 (three years ago)

Not bad at all.

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 16 August 2022 23:23 (three years ago)

This LP finally shopped out a week or so ago... It's the YYY's guitarist doing a classical piece.

'41 Strings' (2022, @brianchase123)

I like the @YYYs just fine but am not an obsessive fanboy by any means. I know shit about classical music. Yet this lovely release got my attention and I had to pick it up. pic.twitter.com/3Ozb8W2H8h

— Brian O'Neill (@NYC__Native) August 14, 2022

It was recorded on Earth Day a while back but it finally got a release.

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Wednesday, 17 August 2022 02:19 (three years ago)

speaking of extracurricular activities, always wondered why Stop the Virgens was never released. I saw it at St. Anns in Brooklyn. Actually paid extra to get a special poster which I was never sent. But the show was amazing and thought for sure it'd get a soundtrack or video release but...nothing?

dan selzer, Wednesday, 17 August 2022 04:13 (three years ago)

Every time I read the thread title I think it's YYY covering New Edition.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 August 2022 09:29 (three years ago)

Same here. Was wondering who would replace the Greek chorus of Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike in the YYY's version, and I guess we'll never know.

henry s, Wednesday, 17 August 2022 12:22 (three years ago)

I'm missing the guitars and raw energy, this sounds too much like Amy Winehouse and a ballad to have replay value.
Then again I stopped listening to YYY after Fever to Tell / Show your bones so I'm out of touch with their work.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 17 August 2022 13:27 (three years ago)

It's been a long time since they recorded anything like Date With The Night, and that's a shame because they were extremely good at it. I'm not in love with either of these new tracks, but I'm relieved they're 1000x better than anything on Mosquito.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 17 August 2022 13:31 (three years ago)

Amy Winehouse???

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 17 August 2022 13:33 (three years ago)

one month passes...

I see this is out today, I can't play it yet. Has anyone listened to this yet?

Bee OK, Friday, 30 September 2022 16:14 (two years ago)

it's decent but pretty slight

closer to it's blitz than their others

ufo, Friday, 30 September 2022 16:22 (two years ago)

I like the ESG inspired one (fleez).

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 30 September 2022 16:49 (two years ago)

I disklike the big, squeaky synths (esp. on a track like "Wolf")... reminds me of The Weeknd or something.

"Cool ranch dressing!" (morrisp), Friday, 30 September 2022 16:55 (two years ago)

Finally got around to playing this album over the weekend. Not the sound I go for when in the mood for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It sort of went in one ear and out the other, it was just too mellow overall.

Bee OK, Monday, 3 October 2022 18:40 (two years ago)

I think this is pretty great??

Tim F, Monday, 3 October 2022 20:57 (two years ago)

I agree. It's not their best album by any means but a huge improvement on Mosquito - really enjoying "Wolf", "Fleez" and "Different Today" particularly and the singles are great too.

monotony, Monday, 3 October 2022 21:38 (two years ago)

Grant them this: no two YYY albums sound alike.

After two listens this is a good, often very good album.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2022 22:13 (two years ago)

I’ll never begrudge a band/artist for changing up their approach, but I do wish the YYYs hadn’t pulled the cord on their classic sound so early.

Linkin Bio (morrisp), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:03 (two years ago)

Which is...?

Their best album is either Show Yr Bones or It's Blitz!.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:12 (two years ago)

it's blitz is so easily their best

ufo, Monday, 3 October 2022 23:35 (two years ago)

haha, guess there's no consensus here for sure

Linkin Bio (morrisp), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:39 (two years ago)

(I think Fever is an absolutely classic album, and I wish they had mined that vein a little further. The others have a few good songs each, for me.)

Linkin Bio (morrisp), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:47 (two years ago)

I can't imagine a time when "Heads Will Roll" will cease being my favorite song.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:51 (two years ago)

Have you heard the Sing 2 version, performed by porcupine Scarlett Johansson?

Linkin Bio (morrisp), Monday, 3 October 2022 23:56 (two years ago)

"Spitting of the edge of the world" more or less seems to be the band choosing to subsume their identity into that of Perfume Genius: like, have the guy contribute to yr calling card song on yr new album by all means, but maybe try to not have that song sound exactly his most famous tune…

veronica moser, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 00:01 (two years ago)

Fleez is so great, and not JUST because of the ESG quote or because it’s about ESG but okay a lot because of that. Rhythmically, texturally, energy-wise I think it lives up to its subject

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 10:51 (two years ago)

there’s a perfume genius song, an esg song, and a four seasons song on here. feels like the subsuming of identity is a theme

anyway, i really like the way this sounds

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 4 October 2022 12:22 (two years ago)

Environmental, social and governance (ESG)?

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 4 October 2022 12:49 (two years ago)

Fever and It's Blitz! are the best for me but I seem to have never knowingly listened to Mosquito

kinder, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 13:00 (two years ago)

SO this is often okay to good. The okay stuff consists of pleasant atmospheric nothings for which I don't go to YYYs ("Lovebomb," "Blacktop"). The good stuff is in that middle stretch from "Wolf" to "Burning."

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 5 October 2022 15:45 (two years ago)

It's Blitz! is still my favorite. I actually liked Mosquito quite a bit (except for the title track).

birdistheword, Wednesday, 5 October 2022 15:51 (two years ago)

I think what bothered me about this album is the spoken word stuff but I did enjoy the a lot more the second time around. The singles are great.

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 October 2022 00:48 (two years ago)

The funny thing is tonight and tomorrow night at the Hollywood Bowl is New Order and the Pet Shop Boys. I originally had tickets but that was two years ago and didn't reup.
