what the fuck do these people sound like?

they are a lethargic, allegedly poppy sounding indie-rockers although i have never heard a decent melody from them and the guy can't sing, it's more of a talkie whine, just dreadful! not sure why they get all of the love that they do.

It's all based on pity for the two weeks they were on Elektra.

I think "Kill the Moonlight" is one of the best albums of 2002...

The new album isn't sloppy at all. I like his voice. "Everything Hits At Once" has a great melody, and is one of my favorite rock singles from the past few years.

Still processing KTM. They mix genres a bit but they seem to sustain a reasonable degree of rockingness all the way through - I'll have to see whether it passes the car stereo test. Keyb player is very cool.

Spoon is one of my favourite bands from the last few years. The band manages to merge (no pun intended) melodic pop with a spare rhythmic sensibility. Britt Danie's voice is a great rock 'n' roll instrument – expressive and affecting. I don't find him whiny at all. The band used to wear its influences too plainly on its collective sleeves, borrowing from Wire and the Pixies on its earlier albums, but Spoon has sublimated these touchstones with its last two albums.

Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight are highly recommended.

I have never listened to them either but am right now, to "lines in a suit" off Girls Can Tell.

At risk of being insufficiently descriptive, they are definitely indie in style. The music is pretty catchy, though, and I like the instrumentation. They have a piano player. If you enjoy bands like the French Kicks, you might like this.

one month passes...
has anyone noticed "Small Stakes" sounds like Duran Duran? "Hungry Like the Wolf" maybe? except for the words part, of course.
