Arto Lindsay chronology

I once read an review of Arto Loindsay's 'Invoke'. The article kept referring to this previous record that 'Invoke' supposedly is a breakaway from. Does anyone know which record that could be? 'Prize', maybe?

yep - you got it right - although how you tell the difference between x number of cds of v.dull arty retro bossa postmodernism is beyond me COFFEE TABLE!!! - pickup "aggregates (1-26)" by the arto lindsay trio which is great abstract nowave funk punk that sounds like evryone reckons DNA should've sounded like (DNA sounded like anaemic castrated slits / rip rig & panic or something) - dead funky - either that or if yr after some proper tropicalissimo pick yrself up "jogos de armar" by tom zé - absolutely mindsweating stuff.

Prize would indeed look great on a coffee table - the artwork is way cool. "Prefeelings" is the only track on it that would scare your grandma, and it's one of the weaker ones.

Skip Prize, which is so-so, and pick up one of the two albums that came before it, Mundo Civilizado and Noon Chill, which are both really gorgeous. Former has more electronic/funk grooves, the latter is more mellow and lilting. Noon Chill even has a long tedious guitar feedback piece buried at the end, presumably for people like Snoom.

Not on my copy. Rykodisk as against Righteous Babe version? Mine has a bonus disc of remixes instead.

I think Lindsay is really pushing his luck with this stuff now - Invoke is almost completely characterless, and Prize was mostly weak (but did contain "Resemblances", which is unspeakably great). Noon Chill is probably the most consistent, but it's O Corpo Sutil I keep going back to.
