I always thought this sounded stylistically like Kate Bush

Akiko Yano may be Japan's closest KB analogue.

Their careers more or less started at the same time too.

Some nice selections there! This is something that reminds me of Kate Bush in the arrangements (for parts of the song at least - and especially the fretless bass):

Definitely get frequent Kate Bush vibes from early Kumiko Suyama, especially on this LP from 1986, which also gets a little chanson français at moments...

and so forth. i made some additions for clarity. sorry if you posted something further down and i missed it.

i go into binges of this stuff sometimes and the albums are totally inconsistent, but there's inevitably some amazing tune that pops up. i can't be the only one. let's chat about it here. post yr mixtape favs.

discovered this one a while back and immediately thought of the dreaming, except whoops. duped by time again: it's from 1981. maybe mildly drums + wires-ish even:

i don't actually approve of it, but you may need clearance from alfred before using the word 'interzone'

Gonna use this thread when I really have the itch for this (which I will). I want music that sounds like the intersection of Moonriders and China Doll's 'Turkish Delight'.

the chorus of this has always seemed very kate bush to me:
