uhhhhh I vote Mr. Bungle

We were clothed, except for Caan, who was naked. Don't know why. (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:50 (two years ago)

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:51 (two years ago)

I do like almost all of these though

jesus lizard shirt is the most amazing-looking one. i would most likely wear the earth shirt

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:52 (two years ago)

oh we’re voting for the band quality not the shirt quality

earth

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:56 (two years ago)

The only one I didn't notice in the film was the Buttholes... It's supposedly an Independent Worm Saloon one? Did anyone catch where it was?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:57 (two years ago)

I'm prolly going Bungle on this. I wore a Bungle shirt to my screening šŸ˜Ž

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:57 (two years ago)

And yeah, all six are great bands and also Prince

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:58 (two years ago)

if you asked me like a decade ago, i woulda said Jesus Lizard

now? Earth

Murgatroid, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 16:59 (two years ago)

Earth def wins if the contest was number of good albums

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 17:01 (two years ago)

These are actually all good bands but the answer here is clearly Wipers

zacata, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 17:26 (two years ago)

this is probably wrongheaded but

fnm > bungle

big black, melvins > jesus lizard

ween, meat puppets > og butthole surfers

zz top > iws-era surfers

no drone band is better than earth 2, 3 and pentastar

is how i break it down to an extent

don’t really care for wipers or rage, but in unrelated jesus lizard news found 2nd denison kimball lp in cheapo bin šŸ‘šŸ»

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 17:58 (two years ago)

i totally realize ā€œis there an acceptable substitute for this bandā€ is a weird way to compare bands that maybe only makes sense when living in the shadow of 30 years of music collector nerdery

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:02 (two years ago)

voting Earth as well - not only for the drone stuff but for what they became later with Hex etc

imago, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:02 (two years ago)

like, California is my favourite album by any of these, but it's just one album (Disco Volante also great but somehow still not quite at the level they promised and finally delivered)

imago, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:04 (two years ago)

u so crazy, disco volante is their best!!

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:05 (two years ago)

can’t stand gothik neil young post pentastar earth!

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:05 (two years ago)

give Hex another listen honest

imago, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:11 (two years ago)

also put some respect on Extra-Capsular Extraction too lol

imago, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:12 (two years ago)

oh yeah, duh. i also really like the smashed amps live one and ā€œliving in the gleam of an unsheathed swordā€. remixes are okay but nah hex is where i get off the bus

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:16 (two years ago)

love late period wipers, voted for them

brimstead, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:29 (two years ago)

the first few jesus lizard albums are so disgustingly good that i am willing to forgive them for not having the expansive discography that the other bands here have

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 18:45 (two years ago)

buttholes as a live presence > all the rest

not sure I have ever considered ween + meat puppets as a comparison point to the butthole surfers, the latter feels very different to me.

Position Position, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 19:31 (two years ago)

I voted for Earth. A lot of the other bands are great, but only one I’d want to spend a lot of time listening to now.

i know what you mean re: that comparison … after i posted it occurred to me a better formulation might be (ween x meat puppets) = butthole surfers

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 19:44 (two years ago)

voting buttholes as their first 4 albums blow 99.9% of everything out of the water.

would be happy if earth, wipers or the jesus lizard won.

have never knowingly heard mr. bungle or rage against the machine (apart from that one song).

stirmonster, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 19:52 (two years ago)

ā€œthat one songā€ obviously means mr. bungle’s ā€œdesert search for techno allahā€, right?

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:08 (two years ago)

Rage has def aged the worst of this bunch but best song in this whole crew would be a tie between "Youth of America" ... and "Bulls on Parade" haha

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:17 (two years ago)

all these bands rules but the Wipers are the Wipers

alpine static, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:18 (two years ago)

but shit ... Earth is Earth. shit.

alpine static, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:18 (two years ago)

Haven't seen the movie but the Butthole Surfers used to have some incredible T-shirts before they signed with Capitol. When I saw them in '89, they had one with an ultra-close-up photo of a tick, and another one with a pair of rubber-gloved hands giving a tiny baby pig an injection with a huge nightmare-inducing needle, and on both those shirts they had borrowed the old Newport cigarettes slogan "Alive with pleasure!" Same font and everything. I almost bought the pig one and really wish I had.

but also fuck you (unperson), Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:31 (two years ago)

sometimes i’ll be driving a loaner from the shop with a busted cd player and no usb and ā€œbulls on paradeā€ comes on the classic rock radio between ā€œenter sandmanā€ and ā€œkashmirā€ and on those occasions i turn it up, not off

the late great, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 20:40 (two years ago)

@stirmonster I'd add Live PCPPEP and Double Live into that Buttholes list as well.

Position Position, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 21:15 (two years ago)

@stirmonster I'd add Live PCPPEP and Double Live into that Buttholes list as well.

yes indeed. just thinking about Double Live and i am singing The One I Love

ā€œthat one songā€ obviously means mr. bungle’s ā€œdesert search for techno allahā€, right?

ha! i feel i have to go educate myself right now..

stirmonster, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 21:25 (two years ago)

ok! sold! was absolutely nothing at like what i thought it would be like.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 21:31 (two years ago)

i guess i just see wipers as being on a different level then these other bands. so, wipers

budo jeru, Thursday, 28 July 2022 00:50 (two years ago)

three weeks pass...

having now seen it, jesus lizard should have got my vote.

stirmonster, Friday, 19 August 2022 23:31 (two years ago)

Have not seen the movie so can’t judge on which shirts I’d love to have but for bands I’d rank them as:

Wipers
Butthole Surfers
Earth
The Jesus Lizard
Mr. Bungle
Rage Against the Machine

āœ–āœ–āœ– (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 23:43 (two years ago)

I’d use a shirt with any of these bands tho

āœ–āœ–āœ– (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 23:44 (two years ago)

I have this one.
