Quincy Jones — Body Heat (1974)

an all star cast, quincy's best album under his own name, and definitive summer soul. if you love vintage moogs, spacey phasers and catchy hooks, there's not a lot to skip on this one.

several prospects here, and even though i'll probably end up voting for the first track or the last track, i'd like to campaign for "everything must change." bit of a mellow stoney take on post-what's going on fumes and a song that i ignored for years — but i love it these days.

ah, so this is the original “Everything Must Change”. I only ever knew (and loved) Nina Simone’s version on her 1978 Baltimore album, which skips the jazzy break.

yes, nina makes a fine brood of the song — i had completely forgotten about her version! no dis on her take, but i definitely love and miss quincy's solo from the proper version. that coda really makes the song for me.
