around last month this became my favorite gm album. the production on all of his records is devastatingly gorgeous but the filter house influence on this one just makes it extra beautiful and eerie

I like how on the verse to "Amazing" I can tell he's been listening to Daft Punk.

'Flawless' was a summer jam at the time for little me, but more so the Shapeshifters Remix.

I wonder, if he'd dropped "Amazing" or "Flawless" as the first singles, if that would've made any difference to the (it semmed at the time) underwhelming rception. They seem like the album's big crowdpleasers.

When you mean underwhelming reception, is it critical? The British public embraced it without hesitation.

xp As you say he effectively did release Amazing as the lead single. Freeek/Shoot the Dog were not only ages ago by then but he was on a different label

A lot of the reviews at the time put it in the hall for being overlong and having overlong songs. There'll be a chance for them to get it right if there's ever a Patience box set.

I think it's "Precious Box" for me. It hints at a shimmering deep house opus that George could have made had he had the opportunity and inclination. Imagine a collaboration with Charles Webster.

Yes, there's a strong echo throughout of Modjo's production style in particular.

I'd love to know specifically what French/funky house he was digging. Besides The Ones obv. There was so much of that here in the early 00s and idk if I hear Modjo more-so over others.
