tell me the last piece of music that made you feel uncomfortable, whether through "questionable" lyrics or a low-frequency bassline or whatever.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 30 November 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dear Mr. Jesus", as heard on a retro-goofball local radio show last night called "Crap From the Past". I think the fact that I was laughing my ass off was what made me uneasy.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 30 November 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

The Smiths, "This Night Has Opened My Eyes"

Adam A. (Keiko), Saturday, 30 November 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dear Mr. Jesus"

An insane, horrible song by the legendary Power Source! They played PTL's theme park more than once. Donut Bitch once pointed out, however, that song's a prime candidate to be covered by modern Flaming Lips, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 30 November 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

They could do a meta-mashup with "Jesus Shootin' Heroin"!

okay, a more pointed version of the q: last time lyrics tested yr empathy abilities?

umm... Beta Band the 3EPs I remember made me feel slightly sea-sick after extended listenings when I first got it. Don't know why. Just the aural equivalent of spinning round and round till you fall over I guess. Anybody else get this?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I am disappointed that this is not about the fantastically great Jonny L tune called Uneasy, which also fits the question.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Dog latin: I know what you mean. Especially on the 2nd EP tracks.

Uneasy? Every time I hear Eminem (and think of all those people who worship this guy.)

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

this song we had to sing in choir today, it was a takeoff on a bunch of patriot songs, and the transition between two of them sounded like a police siren or something. it was ah "aaaah" that got higher and higher.

also the vanessa carlton song on the radio in the morning. her voice makes me uneasy.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I forget who sings it, but that gawdawful "I'm proud to be an American/Where it Least I know I'm Free..." shit that they wheel out at every Republican National Convention. That makes me uneasy.

Isn't that Lee-fucking Greenwood? There's this song called the "Christmas Shoes" that makes me really sick because it's the biggest piece of shit to ever float on the radio and I know that people request it every Xmas for it's heartwarming content. What was it the filthy critic said. It's like drinking diarrhea, it goes down real smooth but it tastes like shit.

Carey, Wednesday, 22 January 2003 01:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"courtesy of the red white and blue" freaks me out more than Lee Greenwood, because Toby Keith has some genuine personality voicewise, there for his hideous politics aren't as easy to dismiss.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 01:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I get that seasick feeling from listening to 70's rock, esp. stuff like Doobie Brothers (probably the main reason I don't like it, actually)

Curtis Stephens, Wednesday, 22 January 2003 01:21 (twenty-three years ago)

at last i'm free by chic is some seriously woozy uneasy shit but in a good way: the way the voices go all sickly on the "see in front of me" line; the endless repetition; the ambiguity. would make my all time top 10 probably.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Can someone explain what the HELL the deal is with "Christmas Shoes"? It's inescapable in malls, thrift stores, and the like, and every time I hear it I feel the urge to kill. It's as if I've wandered into a red-state time warp, and I'm not even in a red state. It's the musical equivalent of a "Freedom Isn't Free" bumper magnet.

Am I too rockist to appreciate it? I feel like it's the most mawkish, exploitative piece of shit ever. Especially when the children's choir comes in at the end.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Thursday, 23 December 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Oneida makes my girlfriend really uncomfortable. I keep telling her that's because they're so awesome.

Revive! I'd somehow managed to escape this song when it first made the rounds, but it's been damn near ubiquitous here in Toronto. I want to physically slap the songwriters responsible, and I really want to scream at people who fall for the cheap "son, we gonna write us a tearjerka" sentimentality of it.

On an Awful Scale of one to "My Humps", it's "My Humps" squared.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

Reinhard Voigt's "Ready For Take Off" at full volume = downright evil

Yawn (Wintermute), Saturday, 10 December 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

the radio frequencies being played at the foundry on wednesday night

calderdale in the 70s (gareth), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Baader Meinhof, "Meet Me At The Airport" was a bit too much for me lyrically.
