Much too long but found this part funny as some people were blown away at them making ILMs decade list from last summer.
18. Where’s Alvvays? The critic hive-mind ultimately isn’t that important to the whole festival circuit, and maybe nobody should be too mad that they won’t get to hear “Belinda Says” in a big tent in the middle of the afternoon. But this year’s lineup is actually pretty heavy on critical favorites, so it seems a little strange that the band who made one of last year’s most lauded records won’t be at Coachella

YouTube has six feeds this year, which theoretically should mean that if it’s on this list you should be able to watch. There does happen to be a seventh stage and do wonder if that will come into play somehow? Anyways, starting the written out list at 4 PM because that is whey they turn it on.

Now we know why Coachella organizers waited so long to announce set times for the festival’s first weekend: They’d been hiding news that Blink-182 would make a surprise performance, the band’s first set since its famed lineup reunited last year. When Blink-182 takes the stage at 6:45 p.m. Friday on the festival’s first night, it will mark the first time Travis Barker, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus have played together publicly since 2014.British singer James Blake was also announced as a last-minute addition, playing the Do Lab stage at 8:30 p.m.

cancelling a performance because of suffering two leg fractures and a sprain shortly before the first performance which caused an entire reworking of the show hours before showtime that didn't go well, isn't entirely the same thing as just saying "lol I don't wanna perform".
granted idk that he needed to fire all the skaters before the first show but if he kept his slot for the second show and performed sitting down per doctor's orders then he'd just get lit up for being boring and sitting down for the whole show

Kevin Parker (tame impala) had a fractured hip and didn’t cancel this year.

he released a pair of singles back in 2020 before he was originally supposed to play coachella, and had at least put out an extensive run of non-album singles post-blonde in the years prior
he said at this year's show that he didn't have any new material to perform (but is working on new material). really it's probably just because they threw too much money at him to turn down
― ufo, Thursday, 20 April 2023 08:45 (one year ago) link

― ufo, Thursday, 20 April 2023 08:48 (one year ago) link
i think frank is (was) fulfilling the contractual obligation from his canceled 2020 booking and if there was no obligation, he would never have agreed to headline.
frank's younger brother passed away in august 2020 at the age of 18, and if the speech he gave during his performance is any indication, he is very much still grieving and that grief is affecting his ability to create his art. some artists are able to channel their pain into their music, but some people can't.

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for CoachellaJim Curtis could write a book about the surreal phone calls he’s fielded during major music festivals in his California desert town. Some callers ask to turn the music down, and others complain the music is not loud enough.
After 18 years as the liaison between the city of Indio and Goldenvoice — the promoters for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival — Curtis thought he has heard it all, but this past weekend’s 2023 Coachella set a new precedent. Due to headlining artists breaking curfew over all three nights, Goldenvoice is on the hook for $117,000 in fines. The money goes into the city’s general fund which supports police, fire and public works.

The ankle injury sounded like bullshit from the start. Saying he has stage anxiety or something like that would have been better received because even if the ankle injury was real, he spent pretty much all the concert sitting so I don’t see why he couldn’t just do the same on the second weekend.
