Album out, I think it's kinda really good? The production is genuinely good, I like that RiotUSA is on every track. The mix of brooklyn drill, jersey club and a bit of caribbean dub/dancehall fells really east coast in a modern way. Someone is going to take that sound and make a really great album out of it, though it might not be Ice Spice.

oh damn yeah. ice spice herself, how does she relate to nicki minaj or megan thee stallion? she sounds cooler and has more swag than either imho! sorry that sounds a little corny. and she's already demonstrating versatility with the sweeter more romantic stuff and "gimmie a light" which is obviously the one for the gays on the album. then stuff like "bitch i'm packin" has some real menace to it. she's compelling and really talented but i'm still not sure what her deal is, is she just updating nicki/megan?

i don't see her as in the mold of nicki or other recent rap girls at all, although she's obv from new york and grew up listening to nicki. the nonchalant-bordering-on-monotone flow over frequently really fast tempos (cardi b talked about attempting to make a remix of "munch" and giving up because the beat kicked her ass), it was really kind of subtly unique and cool for a minute. she regains that a little bit on the album but not enough imo, riot's doing great stuff all over the album but he's outgrown her, i hope he starts working more with other artists soon.

she’s better understood in the context of bronx drill, with breathless uptempo delivery over chipmunk samples. her performances on a lot of the non singles on y2k remind me of her pre-“munch” singles, vocals are rawer and more energetic than the nonchalant purring that marked her breakout hits. it’s a cool effect over riot’s production on here, which has come a very long way from “no clarity”

i still enjoy her as a personality, tho some dude is otm that her rapping has hit a wall

semi-related but the terrible cash cobain xxl cypher has made me realize how there’s an entire generation of ny rappers who can only rap over thos super fast drill beats haha

Really loving it, album goes hard and she's ditched a lot of the funsie stuff in favour of aggressive drill.

i'm coming to her a little late, so i'm sort of .. trying to figure out why i like her so much lol. i think i expected something outrageously femme / girl boss at first but i'm realizing that her appeal for me is her realness. she doesn't stretch too hard and she feels effortless in giving us a little bit of everything. i like seeing glimpses of her beating heart behind the armor. and there's still a bit of salt of the earth in her frame of reference that i really like.
