Branching off from a discussion of The Kinks' Soap Opera please recommend songs that sound somewhat like "Holiday Romance."
Or, you know, that "When I'm Sixty-Four" song...

Another thread on music hall led me to this 1968 album by Barry Booth, Diversions!, which I'm just now listening to for the first time, and it's quite wonderful.

I learned only today that Herman's Hermits' "I'm Henery the Eighth, I Am" is not a pastiche, but an actual music hall song dating to 1910.

A somewhat tentative suggestion but... Sham 69 - Hurry Up Harry

Not a "rock song," but A Runaway Girl is a musical comedy in two acts written in 1898 by Seymour Hicks and Harry Nicholls. It was produced by George Edwardes at the Gaiety Theatre, London. It contained the song "Sly Cigarette," here performed by Tiny Tim.

I'm sure there are better britpop examples than this but something like Alright by Supergrass definitely has music hall elements

There are a few borderline songs that come to mind but maybe they're just cabaret or ragtime or something else instead. Different but definitely related and sung in a Cockney accent they'd be a shoe-in, but...Dire Straits - Les BoysPeter Gabriel - Excuse MeInvariably this sort of song is always easily the worst song on the album.

there are obviously a few Paul McCartney examples, but I think that 'Average Person' is my favourite

Would be remiss not to mention Chas & Dave in this thread - the cockney singalong style is basically music hall as sung in a pub, and they were doing that with rock'n'roll elements. As well as their own originals, they did actually do a huge medley of old music hall tunes on one of their albums: When I'm Cleaning Windows, Any Old Iron, Laughing Policeman, Where Did You Get That Hat etc

stretching the definition of 'rock' music, but Momus has several music hall type songs

Richard Digance was a comedy folk guy, but some of his songs cross over into this kind of vibe

Despite knowing their name, I don't believe I'd ever heard a note of Chas and Dave before. Man, there's a lot of Ian Dury in there.

So many Madness songs, Barzo's influence probably but pretty cool how he/they figured out so early on how it gelled so seamlessly with a little skanking uplift.

It's just a fragment, but the thread title makes me think of the "See you in the morning..." bit in "Defecting Grey" by the Pretty Things.
