presumably there's going to be a lot more of this kind of thing in the future given the sheer amount of music uploaded to the internet? Is there already a crate digging culture around obscure internet-era tracks, trying to find out where they came from, who made them etc? Apparently they found half a million of 50 million uploaded songs that MySpace accidently deleted:

I haven't heard about this one, but I remember there was another 80s pop song that it took the internet years to track down. Someone taped it onto cassette from the radio in the 80s and posted it to Youtube a while ago. They finally found it at some point in the last few years, and it was by a European solo artist (maybe a German or Dutch guy singing in English) and turned out to be available on Spotify. I'm trying to find it again, but the search results are dominated by this new mysterious lost song lol. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Grim Reapah is way more mysterious because (a) we don't even have a Youtube rip of it and (b) burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb.

most likely answer is that it was just some local band's demo, albeit a particularly good sounding one

pretty amusing that the people who made this are probably still just walking around with no idea how many have puzzled over this

i couldn't be happier that it remains unsolved and i hope to see a lot more of this phenomenon. the world needs more anonymously created music imo.

maybe that'll be the new "punk rock" - hit songs that nobody knows where they came from.

yeah I hope it never gets solved. in part because the real answer almost can't be more interesting than the mystery

reminds me of when someone actually found the infamous "Ken - By Request Only" LP and ripped it. and it turned out to be...pretty dull! but imagining what that album might've sounded like was a lot of fun.
