I'm impressed with how familiar with the non-forgetmenots singles y'all were from the get go - was this a very popular release? were these charting singles or underground classics?

"Haven't You Heard" and "Feels So Real" got a ton of airplay at the time on what were then called Urban Contemporary radio stations.

"To Each His Own." I found a copy of Now in a bag of abandoned records on the sidewalk a couple weeks ago and I'm kind of obsessed--beautiful songs, perfect neon 80s production.

This marked Patrice's first album with Elektra Records after making three jazz-oriented albums with Prestige Records. With this album, Rushen makes a switch from jazz to a more R&B/pop music style. The album was heavily criticized by jazz's hardcore audience and Rushen was accused of being a sellout. She was vilified in the jazz media due to this transition, as many believed that the reason for her transition was due to commercial reasons.

I used to confuse her with Brenda Russell (whose first album is a masterpiece).

i mean i always assumed it was her go-to outside of "forget me nots."

It can’t be too underrated, it was the title of the comp after all. Maybe a late bloomer? I think I hear it more on the radio now than her other, more popular songs.
