Siouxsie is headlining Cruel World 2 next month and has not toured since 2008. Thought it was a good time to poll another album to celebrate. ILN has not yet done an artist poll of them yet but I think they are on the list.

"Desert Kisses" easily

Easily “Happy House” for me bc as I’ve noted before it sounds fantastic in a large room coming from a good sound system

“Happy House” sounds so transcendent in a large room coming from a good sound system, so that

Oh gawd, I thought the first post didn’t go through, so sorry. The second one is better phrased

Josefa, Thursday, 20 April 2023 00:36 (two years ago)

"Hybrid."

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 20 April 2023 00:38 (two years ago)

I know they regard it as a transition album but I love so many of these tracks, "Christine", "Tenant", "Red Light", "Paradise Place", "Happy House" ... don't make me choose!

as soon as i saw this topic i said out loud, "CHRISS—TAIN!!!" so yeah that one. but really there's not a bad song on here.

I should have found a way to include "Israel" as it's a bonus on the reissue. It was a stand alone 7" around this time so maybe not including it was for the best?

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 April 2023 03:06 (two years ago)

"Lunar Camel" is definitely not the best song here, but as a recording it's getting my vote for ice cold minimal synth grooviness

J. Sam, Thursday, 20 April 2023 03:30 (two years ago)

My favorite Banshees album by a wide margin. I’ll have to relisten before voting.

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 20 April 2023 04:47 (two years ago)

I had only heard the singles before last night, this album is a monster and have no idea what I'm going to vote for.

Bee OK, Thursday, 20 April 2023 16:21 (two years ago)

Thought this had been polled but I was thinking of the TS: Siouxsie & The Banshees - Kaleidoscope vs. Juju thread.

This is my favourite of their albums, "Lunar Camel" and "Red Light" are the only dull spots. I think of it as a parallel to Seventeen Seconds in the career of the Cure: the group membership has solidified, and both groups are ready to experiment and pursue the moods of the songs without going overboard on overdubs or cramming the sound picture with too much detail, or getting carried away with lyrical Grand Guignol (as they would within just a couple of years).

My brother was enough of a fan in 1981 to purchase an NME on import to read the Siouxsie cover story. That's how I heard the singles as a kid, and they're excellent representatives of the record as a whole; but I'll vote for "Desert Kisses".

Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 20 April 2023 18:08 (two years ago)

This was a fun relisten, first time hearing all the demo versions that are now attached. Ended up choosing "Happy House," simultaneously moody and poppy. Love the bass line and the way it interlocks with Budgie's drums.

I haven’t relistened yet but I just recalled the line “cursed and pissed into the ocean” which pleases me greatly

I voted for the Strawberry Girl

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 20 April 2023 22:16 (two years ago)

It's very boring to vote for "Happy House"...but it's "Happy House". It's such a good showcase for the Budgie/Severin/McGeoch mind-meld.

I love Juju, but the consensus that it's a huge step up from Kaleidoscope is nuts to me. All of its weird sharp corners are delightful, and I could vote for anything on here, even (especially?) "Lunar Camel".

Desert Kisses

Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 22 April 2023 19:29 (two years ago)

Wesert Kisses, such an incredible, dreamy, twisted-up swirl, a vortex of imagery. From there we got the Cocteau Twins

Dr X O'Skeleton, Sunday, 23 April 2023 18:32 (two years ago)

It's between "Trophy", "Clockface" and "Paradise Place" for me.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Brilliant record. Going for 'Red Light' today but would be something another day. Minimal wave Banshees is something I wish there was more of (Slap Dash Snap is also fun in a transistor Factory Benelux way).

Had Drop Dead/Celebration been on the album it would probably be my vote at most times.

you folks talked me into it, went for "Desert Kisses" (also for the line I quoted above).

I'm voting like Alfred and vote for something no-one else has mentioned "Skin."

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

The results are fair enough, although 'Paradise Place' deserved at least one vote. The song always reminded me of this grim brutalist square in Birmingham.

Couldn't not vote "Christine". Christine is just about a "Oh Carol", "Dinah" mom-grandma name song.

Looks like the name peaked in the US around the time the Banshees were born
