Volleyball bands?

On the Audioslave thread, Anthony M says: "You have to be pretty ignorant about modern rock to think Creed is a 'volleyball band.' (They suck, but they ain't THAT kinda suck.)"

I am frightened to learn that there's some subset of "volleyball bands" that all non-ignorant people are aware of. Someone please explain this concept to me. At the very least let me know if we're talking about beach volleyball (Sugar Ray?) or the regular sort (from what I could tell in college, Biggie and Ani DiFranco).

I remember one of the guys on the 96 Olympic team said RATM were his favorite band of all time, so I happily believe that such a genre could exist and deserve opprobium.

But Ned, if "volleyball" rock = RATM, then the volleyball joke in the Audioslave review in question would be spot-on.

eleven years pass...

We're playing pick-up at work. I like playing--never did going through school. I can set and return pretty well, but a) I can't spike, b) won't try to block anyone else who's spiking, and c) won't dive. You could draw a little circle around me about eight feet in diameter, and that's as much as I'm moving.
