Obscenery and Carnavoyeur are the latest in a recent string of unfortunate portmanteaus from Homme. From Villains: bewilderness, screwacide. Desert Sessions 12 had Crucifire. What the Peephole Say is along the same lines. I don't recall him engaging in cringy wordplay on any of the previous albums.

There's also this promo video they released yesterday. Overindulgence is the theme. With Josh's relatively recent sobriety, it makes a lot of sense. I think that's him standing in the background in the knight uniform and ridiculous mustache.

Anyway, cautiously looking forward to it. I eventually came around to most of the songs on Villains, but it felt like every song was meant for a different project - and not in a good way. Desert Sessions 11 & 12 was also kinda a mixed bag for me.

I dig the first single, quite a bit more than I expected. Was driving my son to a baseball game yesterday and it came on the local alt-rock station and he turned it up a couple of times, so it's got the 11 year-old seal of approval, fwiw.

They went all-in on Boneface after ...Like Clockwork. I think that could have been a cool choice if the art wasn't all of Josh himself. And if each of them didn't represent, like, the duality of man, maaaaan.

Maybe I need to revisit Villains, but I remember it being really dull and pretty much not what I'm looking for out of these guys.

The songs I liked best on it were the two he wrote for his children: Fortress and Villains of Circumstance. I grew to like Domesticated Animals a lot. The rest of them I go back-and-forth on, with the exception of The Evil Has Landed, which just doesn't land for me, and Feet Don't Fail Me, which I think is self-mythologizing autobiographical bullshit. It's the aural equivalent of Josh putting a drawing of himself on the album cover.

t was reported in the fall of 2021 that Homme’s sons had filed a restraining order against their father and that it was signed by their mother. It has since been revealed in court proceedings that this restraining order was drafted and filed by Gunner Foxx, who forged Dalle’s signature on the document. Dalle later testified in court to having known at the time that Foxx had forged her signature, while doing nothing to set the record straight legally or in the media.

In August of 2022, Joshua Homme and his two sons were granted a restraining order protecting them from Gunner Foxx, preventing him from making any contact with them whatsoever for a period of five years. Foxx’s requests for a restraining order against Homme were denied by two separate courts.

It was reported that Homme’s daughter filed a restraining order against him. This was also filed by Gunner Foxx who took the minor child to court without the presence of either one of her parents. Prior to the hearing on this matter — at the child’s request and through her own counsel — the order was rescinded.

All allegations made against Joshua Homme by Brody Dalle and Gunner Foxx or on behalf of the Homme children have been repeatedly investigated by local law enforcement, Los Angeles DCFS and the Los Angeles County Courts. Additionally, the children are represented and their best interests are ensured by their own court-appointed legal counsel, DCFS and the Los Angeles Court system. It was subsequent to these investigations, as well as 24-hour, court-appointed monitoring (at both parents’ homes over many months) that the Los Angeles Family Court determined it is in the best interest of the children to remain in the care of their father.

was a pretty rough listen for me, cannot stand how the record sounds.

i love the first song they put out, i dunno, i just think he wants it to be a different kind of band than I want them to be, like some kinda heavy metal "fashion" by david bowie type thing. i prefer the old style.

think the songs are all really strong

I did see them when they came through a couple months ago, was really a great show. I hadn't seen them since Songs For the Dead (Trail of Dead opened, Lanegan was with Quotsa, probably a top 10 show for me), but they really have become a great arena rock band, was also cool they brought Viagra Boys who went over really well with the crowd

so wild. ToD of course were just going nuts the whole set then wrecked everything at the end

Oliveri was still in the band, Lanegan would stalk out for his songs wearing this black duster looking like a character from some sort of post apocalyptic western, then stalk backstage right as the song got done, never acknowledging the crowd in any way

this was after the small club tour they did with Grohl which I couldn't get a ticket to but it was Chuck Biscuits from Danzig on drums he was great

I went to the inverse show UMS describes: Screaming Trees *Dust* tour, with Homme playing guitar. It was roasting hot and Lanegan was still in a coat and beanie hat and, yeah, not acknowledging anything or anyone. Fucking amazing show.
