I have done some recent polls in celebration of this show, that happens to be coming up Saturday Night. I first did Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope poll and then Iggy Pop - The Idiot poll and now with this poll it will be three. I should have planed this even better and done more polls for the bands that are showing up here in my home town this weekend. By the looks of the set lists I did cover the Top 3? Just Like Heaven 2 happened this last weekend and forgot all about that one.

It's between Kundalini and NNTTT for me.

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 18 May 2023 00:04 (two years ago)

This comp had a bunch of songs that were edits or single version or even remixed '88 version but took that part out. I wanted the vote to be for the songs and not necessarily this comps version. I just think when Love and Rockets let their hair down and drone out they are at their very best.

"Haunted When the Minutes Drag"

I was one of those American teens who went to see them after being turned on by those first two albums. Bauhaus were also popular among a certain segment of US college kids, but I guess posthumously in their case (‘86-‘87?).

Josefa, Thursday, 18 May 2023 00:56 (two years ago)

Love all of Earth Sun Moon. The instrumentation made me connect with it more than most industrial/goth music of that era.

Good band, good songs. I guess I’ll vote Kundalini, but could be several.

Voted Saudade. I used to play it on repeat. So Alive, Haunted and NNTTT would be next.

Nice review Ned.

I can't resist that scorching pan flute on No New Tale To Tell, sorry.

ⓓⓡ (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 18 May 2023 05:07 (two years ago)

excellent review Ned.

Suadade would have been my next choice.

stirmonster, Thursday, 18 May 2023 10:00 (two years ago)

I always dig their use of acoustic rhythm guitar & voted yin & yang as such.

BrianB, Thursday, 18 May 2023 11:32 (two years ago)

"No Big Deal."

I didn't recognize "Holy Fool""Shelf Life" and "Sweet Lover Hangover" and figured they were from their '90 records. It turned out to be true and looking forward to hearing them for the first time.

Bee OK, Thursday, 18 May 2023 16:22 (two years ago)

My case in point, the longer the better for them:

I don't know that it's their best but for some reason "Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)" has been really clicking for me these days.

I wouldn't call myself a Love and Rockets obsessive, but I've liked them since the 80s. When I saw that they were going on tour, I briefly pondered if I was enough of a fan to drop a bunch of cash on tickets, and then said fuck it, when else will I have this opportunity? Now I'm super psyched to see them in about a month.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 18 May 2023 16:32 (two years ago)

question for Ned, is "J’s friend and music associate Alan Moore" THAT Alan Moore?

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 18 May 2023 16:34 (two years ago)

one last note, after getting these tickets I searched around on YouTube for recent Bauhaus concert footage not realizing that they played together as recently as last year, and now I want to see Bauhaus too, didn't think they would still rip as hard as they do

Natch. He pops up at points in J’s autobiography

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 May 2023 17:46 (two years ago)

They also did at least one collaboration, if not two or three.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 May 2023 17:47 (two years ago)

Gotta go with "Kundalini Express"

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 18 May 2023 20:14 (two years ago)

They were the favourite group of my friends in high school. I liked all of Express but found a lot of the subsequent three records (and the Daniel Ash solo album) were really lazy both lyrically and musically. I'll vote for "It Could Be Sunshine".

Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 18 May 2023 20:49 (two years ago)

"Dog-End of a Day Gone By"

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 18 May 2023 20:52 (two years ago)

I was one of those American teens who went to see them after being turned on by those first two albums.

How were they? I saw them at Red Rocks in . . . it must have been 1987, the year Earth, Sun, Moon came out. I thought they were competent but uninspired, too much downtempo stuff. I saw Danny Ash much later, early 2000s, and he was much better then, as was Peter Murphy, who was always good.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 18 May 2023 20:58 (two years ago)

That was the same time I saw them. Earth, Sun, Moon was already out, but I was more a fan of Express. They did dates in Florida in late '86 and again in late '87. I found the show enjoyable; the bass playing in particular stood out as interesting.

Josefa, Thursday, 18 May 2023 21:15 (two years ago)

I don't think Red Rocks was a good venue for them.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 18 May 2023 21:21 (two years ago)

I remember seeing them at Fenders in Long Beach in 1985? The Bubblemen were also on that bill meaning they got dressed up and danced before their main set. Not a good show as I couldn't see the stage but also some drama. A friend was arrested for underage drinking and running from the cops.

Before Seventh Dream, so their first song? Excellent cover:

Moodles I
Think we have the Bauhaus reunion tour to thank for this short Love and Rockets revival, I believe Bauhaus planned to continue but Murphy went into rehab and it became this. They blew me away last year which is largely why I’m so excited to see L&R in two days; Ash”a playing is just relentless.

Show in Oakland was good but a little underwhelming. Guitar def should have been a lot louder.

thank you for making me feel better about missing out ... lol:sob

sarahell, Monday, 22 May 2023 16:43 (two years ago)

I was having to decide between that and another show last night...but then I ended up feeling under the weather all day yesterday and had to miss both, so maybe I'm happy about the decision being taken out of my hands.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 May 2023 16:44 (two years ago)

Ash's playing is just relentless.

I'm pretty sure I have him to thank for the tinnitus that has plagued me for more than a decade.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 22 May 2023 16:44 (two years ago)

I had to vote for "So Alive" but "The Dog-End of a Day Gone By" was right there.
