Don't we need to talk about Sleep Token?

They're a British band with anonymous members wearing masks, "the mortal representatives of the ancient deity known only as 'Sleep', led by the masked and cloaked figure appointed 'Vessel' ... the master creator behind the music." - yeah okay, it's a bit like Ghost with extra bells on then.

Their prog/soul/pop/djent/math/metal sounds like a lot of things we've heard before, but maybe not in the same band or song. They've been blowing up like crazy over the last half year or so, with new singles gathering million+ views in a week etc - this one has 6+ million views in 4 months:

I was recommended these by a dyed-in-the-wool trv kvlt metal friend, and I was surprised tbh. To be charitable I'd associate them with Katatonia or Tool, but the singing style verges just too much into angsty/emo/nu-metal vibes for me. That said, I don't mind this tune you've posted

Oh, I didn’t realize they had their own thread. I just revived a different thread to talk about my bafflement at who they are and why they are so bad and so popular.

I saw them live last year (friend had free tickets)

They certainly put on a show but not convinced they were singing live and was also bemused by why all these metalheadz (judging from the crowd) appear to love them so much. Most of their output sounds like a boyband with some heavier guitar and a bit of screaming shoehorned in

groovypanda description made me think of Linkin Park - but at least LP were fun and catchy with their singles for a while - but this is just really humourless stuff

I've only sampled a few tracks from the latest. I can hear some of the appeal in "Look to Windward", but the vocals and dreary production are still a struggle.

I'm interested in others' opinions on this band. I'm of two minds, feeling their music is comically overwrought and dramatic while also being far more interesting than what else is on the Billboard charts right now.
