"Reeling"
Now that summer has kicked in properly I'm really loving this absolutely killer psychedelic disco soul (as NickB put it) group of 3 singers + 4 musicians. They were briefly discussed a bit in the listening club thread, and s/o to monotony for trying to drum up interest in their very good 2022 album Prism last fall:
Say She She - Prism - I've found it hard to place this, but I feel like it sits at the intersection of a host of ILM vectors - Lady Wray herself might be one, but also Natalie Prass, We Are King, Emily King, Kadhja Bonet, that short-lived band Juce, Esperanza Spalding when she's in a more straightforward mode, etc. Their band name is horrible and the album is on the short side, but it's lovely to listen to and hard to fault.
I actually kinda like the name lol. I called this serious ilm-bait on the other thread, and I stand by that: they really hit a sweet spot of making not remotely academic disco revival within the context of a full band-qua-band, if that makes sense

reeling is fantastic. if it was up to me i'd have some more live sounding percussion in there, it feels a little stiff-hipped.. but v nice anyway

"stiff-hipped" is a good description. I love the concept and the overall way it's down is fantastic.
the production is just a tiny bit too sparkly bright for this sort of music, and it's a constant reminder that this is new music pastiching the past. Someone like Patchworks' Bruno Hovart would have been good in this instance to scuzzy things up a bit. Still, I do like this

this is a lot of fun! obviously not breaking new ground, but it's well made and written, and they do some wonderful things arranging the three voices (e.g. Astral Plane)
