Of these, the three that I'd say "you really should listen to it if you haven't yet": the Brady/Irvine, the Harvey Milk, and that particular O'Rourke is a 10/10 masterpiece

If asked to select one of these 50 records IRL, my choice most often would be Hassell's Dream Theory. It's the one title that I can enjoy regardless of whatever my mood might be.

Around 17 of these are among my favorites, good list!

Bubbled under and/or I forgot them when typing: Big Star Radio City, The Who Live At Leeds, The Strokes Is This It, Public Enemy Millions, The La’s s/t, and it’s always a struggle to pick only one Missy album but could’ve been Supa Dupa Fly or Miss-E easy, I can’t believe I didn’t pick a Paul Simon bc I like him so much, VDP Song Cycle sure, and Ichiko Aoba belongs up there but her discography all bleeds together too much

Never heard Swell Maps, will rectify that today

Yeah, I felt I had to do a POO for guy-punk (Swell Maps edging out Stooges s/t, Pink Flag, my contentious Husker Du favourite Land Speed Record), a POO for p4k 00s indie (Cryptograms leaves all other options well in the dust imo), a POO for Kranky (so many good options but Tired Sounds won), a POO for classic rock (Zombies beat out The Who Live At Leeds and Black Sabbath and seriously Procol Harum who I rate really highly), and a POO for Kraut (like it or not, Switched On is the best motorik album, despite being a photocopy; strange for me to not have any Cluster on this list)

Many of my favourite artists were excluded because "they're bigger than any one album" (Nina Simone) or because "they resist canonisation" (Throbbing Gristle, Big Black)

I also found myself deeply-feeling "the appeal of newness", favouring green first-efforts by many acts over later moments-of-accomplishment (Diamanda s/t, Harvey Milk, "Control", "Hot Cool Vicious", Scott 3, "Julius Caesar", ). Also deeply-feeling "mature albums" in certain instances (João, Bowie, "Shutting Down Here").

Voted Badu in that other one, and this isn't my favorite Bjork album, so Erotica it is!

Yeah tabes imo Talker is their best album but the entry point is Long Hair In Three Stages, also the first album Jim O’Rourke officially produced (that wasn’t a project of his own)

When you get on their wavelength of “how rock works” and then hear Talker (where it sounds like they’re all sitting down) it makes a tonne of sense

yeah listening to Talker i think felt deeply uncomfortable for me at first— after listening to Acre Thrills and then Talker all the way through I can see why Talker could be a favorite

Not my favorite Badu album, but she doesn't have any bad ones, so I voted for that.

Even though I prefer 'Broken Silence', the inclusion of the Foxy Brown album here is probably my favourite part of this poll or indeed any of the individual top 50 polls.

It’s a personal favourite, it’s my perennial New Year’s Day hangover album. I’ve only done MDMA a couple times in my life but one year I had a very emotional comedown and lay on the couch blubbering “this album is so beautiful”

Dazzle Ships, one of my favourite records.

I can't quite say why this feeling applies to a lot of albums on this list, as opposed to other well-regarded albums, but with these, I feel like I've walked into a skewed world where I enjoy hanging out.

My two favorite to hang out in? Tryptic and Paris 1919.
