Dub Housing. But there's loads here I like a tremendous amount

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Monday, 21 August 2023 23:28 (one year ago)

Paris 1919

but yeah i love most of this list

ciderpress, Monday, 21 August 2023 23:29 (one year ago)

Of these, the three that I'd say "you really should listen to it if you haven't yet": the Brady/Irvine, the Harvey Milk, and that particular O'Rourke is a 10/10 masterpiece

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 21 August 2023 23:35 (one year ago)

If asked to select one of these 50 records IRL, my choice most often would be Hassell's Dream Theory. It's the one title that I can enjoy regardless of whatever my mood might be.

sawdust lagoon, Monday, 21 August 2023 23:53 (one year ago)

Around 17 of these are among my favorites, good list!

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 00:02 (one year ago)

Yeah, very cool list, my friend.

Ansible Dave’s Killer Breadboard (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 00:06 (one year ago)

This list rules

the new drip king (DJP), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 00:10 (one year ago)

Ooooh, love this. I almost included Missy but had to admit that I didn't really listen to those albums as albums, until The Cookbook weirdly enough.

Tempted to vote Xiu Xiu but that's not really my album.

Random Restaurateur (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 00:13 (one year ago)

Tough choice between Marquee Moon and Control.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 00:21 (one year ago)

Bubbled under and/or I forgot them when typing: Big Star Radio City, The Who Live At Leeds, The Strokes Is This It, Public Enemy Millions, The La’s s/t, and it’s always a struggle to pick only one Missy album but could’ve been Supa Dupa Fly or Miss-E easy, I can’t believe I didn’t pick a Paul Simon bc I like him so much, VDP Song Cycle sure, and Ichiko Aoba belongs up there but her discography all bleeds together too much

Joni or the groop

brimstead, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 02:52 (one year ago)

Some real curve balls here, hard not to pick Remain in Light or Blue.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 03:08 (one year ago)

Voted Destroyer, only slightly beating out Joao Gilberto. My favourite list so far, lots of overlap of things I love.

H.P, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 03:16 (one year ago)

Telvision <3

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 03:19 (one year ago)

So glad that someone has Sex Packets in their top 50, it just inspired me to relisten and I'm wading knee-deep through sleazy p-funk workouts right now.

Nabozo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 08:19 (one year ago)

close one between pink moon and remain in light, but RiL edged it for versatility. can't really put on pink moon at a party - maybe in the recovery room for someone who overindulged

tremolo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 09:03 (one year ago)

Too many great ones to choose from in this list tbh.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 09:08 (one year ago)

FWIW I put Remain In Light. Looking forward to digging in to this list. Thanks for sharing.

giraffe, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 09:12 (one year ago)

Kudos for mentioning this! - Andy Irvine & Paul Brady - s/t

Lol make sure you get a dig in there

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 11:47 (one year ago)

i just never look at new answers or questions— i didn’t even know any of this was happening until earlier this morning.

it actually wasn’t meant to be a dig, but it came out that way— i would vote in yours, ums

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:02 (one year ago)

(it’s mostly because i hate polls tbh— i am always let down by them, but i knew fgti’s list would deliver)

Hey both those albums go very hard

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:33 (one year ago)

Marineville was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of high school, so that. also the pick that surprised me most!

Deflatormouse, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:38 (one year ago)

Never heard Swell Maps, will rectify that today

Random Restaurateur (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:18 (one year ago)

Television

nostormo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:26 (one year ago)

Yeah, I felt I had to do a POO for guy-punk (Swell Maps edging out Stooges s/t, Pink Flag, my contentious Husker Du favourite Land Speed Record), a POO for p4k 00s indie (Cryptograms leaves all other options well in the dust imo), a POO for Kranky (so many good options but Tired Sounds won), a POO for classic rock (Zombies beat out The Who Live At Leeds and Black Sabbath and seriously Procol Harum who I rate really highly), and a POO for Kraut (like it or not, Switched On is the best motorik album, despite being a photocopy; strange for me to not have any Cluster on this list)

Many of my favourite artists were excluded because "they're bigger than any one album" (Nina Simone) or because "they resist canonisation" (Throbbing Gristle, Big Black)

I also found myself deeply-feeling "the appeal of newness", favouring green first-efforts by many acts over later moments-of-accomplishment (Diamanda s/t, Harvey Milk, "Control", "Hot Cool Vicious", Scott 3, "Julius Caesar", ). Also deeply-feeling "mature albums" in certain instances (João, Bowie, "Shutting Down Here").

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:33 (one year ago)

Voted Badu in that other one, and this isn't my favorite Bjork album, so Erotica it is!

fair but so uncool beliefs here (Eric H.), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:34 (one year ago)

well Dazzle Ships is my (joint) favourite album ever so

you can see me from westbury white horse, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:38 (one year ago)

Pink Moon for sure. After that Marquee Moon. I'm a moon guy

c u (crüt), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:39 (one year ago)

Also I'm a big fan of Albini's "production" and I feel he's bringing out the best in a client when he's working with Neurosis and/or Electrelane, a pair of truly magical collaborations

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:39 (one year ago)

us maple

flopson, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 05:31 (one year ago)

Voted Xiu Xiu for sentimental reasons--great list, fgti

If I luge, if I luge, if I luge you on the track (Craig D.), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 14:05 (one year ago)

I stewed over my vote longer on this one than any of the others — finally went with Switched On.

The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 14:33 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 24

Favourite: Pink Moon over Eno

Least-favourite: Illuminations - bold, inventive, but listening to it makes me queasy

Nicest surprise: Swell Maps or 1. Outside

Unheard, but most want to hear: Neurosis?

Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 24 August 2023 18:18 (one year ago)

voted U.S. Maple

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 24 August 2023 18:30 (one year ago)

really interesting, I have never heard US Maple! (Avoided because I hate the name lol)

Going to resolve that.

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Thursday, 24 August 2023 18:34 (one year ago)

best american band of the 90s

flopson, Thursday, 24 August 2023 22:35 (one year ago)

i… uh… yeah i don’t like this at all lol

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Thursday, 24 August 2023 22:41 (one year ago)

okay, Acre Thrills seems a little more up my alley.

flopson, Thursday, 24 August 2023 22:51 (one year ago)

Yeah tabes imo Talker is their best album but the entry point is Long Hair In Three Stages, also the first album Jim O’Rourke officially produced (that wasn’t a project of his own)

When you get on their wavelength of “how rock works” and then hear Talker (where it sounds like they’re all sitting down) it makes a tonne of sense

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 25 August 2023 00:41 (one year ago)

yeah listening to Talker i think felt deeply uncomfortable for me at first— after listening to Acre Thrills and then Talker all the way through I can see why Talker could be a favorite

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Friday, 25 August 2023 01:43 (one year ago)

Not my favorite Badu album, but she doesn't have any bad ones, so I voted for that.

read-only (unperson), Friday, 25 August 2023 02:15 (one year ago)

Even though I prefer 'Broken Silence', the inclusion of the Foxy Brown album here is probably my favourite part of this poll or indeed any of the individual top 50 polls.

Tim F, Friday, 25 August 2023 03:01 (one year ago)

It’s a personal favourite, it’s my perennial New Year’s Day hangover album. I’ve only done MDMA a couple times in my life but one year I had a very emotional comedown and lay on the couch blubbering “this album is so beautiful”

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 25 August 2023 03:24 (one year ago)

three weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Didn't notice this one last month. Let's go with A Trip To Marineville, from the many viable options, if only for the biggest "I really should listen to that later today" vibes upon spying it!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 02:33 (one year ago)

Dazzle Ships, one of my favourite records.

MaresNest, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 10:24 (one year ago)

I can't quite say why this feeling applies to a lot of albums on this list, as opposed to other well-regarded albums, but with these, I feel like I've walked into a skewed world where I enjoy hanging out.

My two favorite to hang out in? Tryptic and Paris 1919.

Terrycoth Baphomet (bendy), Wednesday, 20 September 2023 14:21 (one year ago)

Yeah, Liberation Through Hearing is just incredible

Kinda wish Demdike Stare stuck with that specific sound/goal for more than a couple releases

my best wishes to all (flamboyant goon tie included), Wednesday, 20 September 2023 16:08 (one year ago)

Eno but this was tough!

atonar, Wednesday, 20 September 2023 16:13 (one year ago)

System, Thursday, 21 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Nice spread! Pleasantly surprised by the multiple votes for Demdike and Switched On and that particular amazing Harvey Milk album. I myself cast the lone vote for Shutting Down Here, my fave album in years

my best wishes to all (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 21 September 2023 00:29 (one year ago)

awww I shoulda voted for Huggy Bear
