Let's pretend with the others that this was easy and done in a few minutes, and that there are no regrets, and no one was left out. Hopefully this includes a few curiosities and your eyes are not squinting and crossing in the sea of interchangeability. One per artist, no comps, no live, no EP, this is strictly album time.

This is a great list. I'm going to have to spend time working through all these and seeing what unknown gems I've been missing all my life

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 08:15 (one year ago)

I picked the Talk Talk one, but I'm particularly looking forward to discovering stuff I wasn't aware of, especially albums I don't know by artists I like, e.g. the Bittova one.

Tough pick between zuma and the modern lovers, but zuma edges it out in consistency

H.P, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 09:20 (one year ago)

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 11:48 (one year ago)

Bile Inferno! Best list so far

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 11:58 (one year ago)

One of these:

Get Up With It
Liege and Lief
Forever Changes
Astral Weeks

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:31 (one year ago)

would be Forca Bruta for the first 2 songs alone

Deflatormouse, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:42 (one year ago)

oh wait idk

Deflatormouse, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:44 (one year ago)

aquemini

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:47 (one year ago)

Tough picks! Voted Modern Lovers over What’s Goin On

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 12:49 (one year ago)

Nara '64 or '67? '67 would be a strong contender for my list if I were to make one.

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 13:26 (one year ago)

Nara 1964, her first, still relatively fresh in simplicity and with fewer symphonic arrangements, but contains devastating renditions of Berimbau, Maria Moita, and Consolaçao among others. It's a bit of a symbolic choice for her career, she's pretty much the voice of the century for me. I'm not even sure I have heard Nara 1967, but I'm convinced she hasn't released a song that isn't worthwhile.

Nabozo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 13:42 (one year ago)

Consolaçao is both a tear-jerker and a life-affirmation, the kind of song that you can use to adjust and orient yourself

If I didn't know love
And didn't know pain
And didn't have to suffer
And didn't have to cry
It would be better to end it all

I loved, loved so much
What I suffered because of love
No one suffered
I cried, I lost my peace
But what I do know is that
No one ever had more
More than I had

Nabozo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:04 (one year ago)

Yeah Consolaçao is all time material

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:11 (one year ago)

Nara 67 is fantastic, go listen to it now imho

rob, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:13 (one year ago)

I think I voted Transa in this one. my gateway into Brazilian music

rob, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:13 (one year ago)

Good list. Forever changes

nostormo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:28 (one year ago)

"Forever changes" is what I would call my favorite albums list, lol.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:31 (one year ago)

I think I voted Transa in this one. my gateway into Brazilian music

Me too ! With Clube da Esquina, Ben's Africa Brasil and Samba Esquema Novo, Lobo's Misa Breve... Personal history influences so many of these choices.

Nabozo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:39 (one year ago)

Brazilian music is kind of why I decided not to try this (jazz too; also reggae becomes impossible if comps are allowed; also African music; and so on)

Africa Brasil might have been my second BR album. I'd probably go with Tabua for my own list, but dang he has a lot of classic albums

rob, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:52 (one year ago)

Great list. I’ve voted for a few of these artists in other polls so going with If You’re Feeling Sinister. Played the hell out of that album when it first came out.

that's not my post, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:57 (one year ago)

chuck ulver a vote why don't i

lots of stuff i either already like or should check out here, more vibe/groove oriented than my own tastes ofc but that's okay we all need a bit of that!!!!

dw everyone i won't go through ALL of these

imago, Friday, 25 August 2023 09:20 (one year ago)

Technically there are a few others I love more, but gotta give it to Björk's 'Medulla' because it was my favorite album of the 2000s, and is underloved in her oeuvre.

Soundslike, Saturday, 26 August 2023 00:13 (one year ago)

I really, really like Old Rottenhat and would possibly attempt to shoehorn it into a top 50 myself. I don't see it mentioned terribly often. Gravitating towards that or Forces of Victory methinks. I shall again endeavour to check out remaining blind-spots here. (Apparently a favourite pastime -- I've typed that phrase a squillion times this week!)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Saturday, 26 August 2023 00:36 (one year ago)

Good list. Voted Broadcast but would probably vote for something different tomorrow.

Dan Worsley, Saturday, 26 August 2023 10:06 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 28 August 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Lots of cool things here. Voted Coil.

Siegbran, Monday, 28 August 2023 16:40 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 27

Favourite: Forever Changes barely over Astral Weeks

Least-favourite: Sharrock (though I like "Who Does She Hope to Be")

Nicest surprise: Buckley, Comus, Japan, Ys

Unheard, but most want to hear: Transa

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 28 August 2023 17:55 (one year ago)

wu tang

ava (paolo), Monday, 28 August 2023 18:04 (one year ago)

xpost: Transa is one of his best, definitely get on it if you’ve listened and liked other things by him.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 28 August 2023 18:08 (one year ago)

R&L Thompson

The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Monday, 28 August 2023 20:37 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Happy about the results. Can't be a bad list if Marvin Gaye finishes at 0, and Astral Weeks and Hounds of Love at 1.

Last-minute cuts included Close to the Edge (Yes), Even Serpents Shine (The Only Ones), Al Final de Este Viaje (Silvio Rodriguez), New Gold Dream Simple Minds), Remain in Light (Talking Heads), Daydream Nation (Sonic Youth), No Other (Gene Clark), Paranoid (Black Sabbath), Juju (Siouxsie). Also felt sad at leaving out The Sound, David Sylvian, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Cheers all

Nabozo, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 08:14 (one year ago)

If we did a poll of the top 50s currently doing the rounds I think I would vote for this one, Nabozo.

giraffe, Tuesday, 29 August 2023 12:25 (one year ago)

Missed this in all the excitement, would’ve voted Miles or Kraftwerk

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 29 August 2023 12:48 (one year ago)
