I just ordered this so I'll join you in a week or so -- but what did you think of this Force, Inc. compilation? I realized I haven't heard much about it, so I'm wondering if its any good.

oh my god, the luomo thing is gorgeous. so swoonsome. that and the mri are about all i ever listen to on this. but i can let "the present lover" loop for hours.

the rest of the collection is nice enough (metro area, the data80 robot pop songs, herbert saving akufen from himself), but i keep ending up back at track 2.

am i the only one?

"Love Was Made for Two" goes on repeat around here.

1,2,3,9,11,14 are on heavy earphone/car rotation and those are just the ones I liked with a very cursory listen. the luomo track sounds like/is as funky as Prince.

The Luomo track is brilliant straight up and down. Nothing else touches that but it's all pretty good (especially the Data80, Swayzak and Care/Yoko Mono tracks).

the two data 80 tracks are ace bubblegum-pop microhouse, "love was made for two" being my favourite. "disconnections" (yoko mono treatment) by care drags you right in and up like a microhouse take on hatiras' "spaced invader". metro area you should know. the whole album is like dropping a pill and snorting a few lines of sugar - i love it.

yet to find a copy of this in BXL grrrr

I'm going to get this as soon as I can find it. Might just order online but I've no money so that's also a problem.

It's a brilliant album but it was a mistake putting the Luomo track on there because it's just too good, you can't get past that if you've got any soul. If "The Present Lover" was released properly then it would easily be my single of the year.

Off the beaten track Mark, was that your Keith Fullerton Whitman review on Pitchfork? If so, I was googling while listening to Hrvatski, found that review (and another one on Playlouder), got the album, and yes, if it was you, you're right.

The reluctance to evangelise rings true, but that album is astonishing, it takes over your life. That's hype, and if you listen to it expecting it to change your life then you'll be disappointed, but it will worm its way in.

Yeah Mike, that was me. More than half the comments I've heard about my take on Playthroughs are of the "You're full of shit" variety -- nice to hear someone who hears what I hear.

Digital Disco arrives tomorrow -- looking forward.

one month passes...
No one mentioned Astrobal's "Magic Lady" on this thread, which is my favorite after the Luomo. Those vocals cause me to slip into a trance & recover memories from being ten with the radio on in 1979.

This finally turned up in Caroline Music. Managed to get the last copy too, phew. Great collection. Yeah, I love that Astrobal track too, but "Love Was Made For Two" is just ... mmmmmmm. Luomo I don't really get at all tho'. Oh well.

Yeah, so far as I'm concerned "The Present Lover" is about five minutes too long.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 13 January 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Nabisco, you talking crazy - the last five minutes are the best!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

neck and neck between "Love Was Made for Two," "Disscopatterntester," "The Present Lover" and the Herbert remix of Akufen. I still think FT/FI/MP should commission a Todd Edwards album since Akufen rips him off so shamelessly, though.
