I'd obviously heard of lots of these before, but would never have purchased Silk Degrees, for instance, if not for the enthusiasm here.

The numbered artist pools have also been pretty crucial for converting vague awareness into rabid fandom.

great idea, when I looked at my top albums list at least a third was stuff I was turned onto here, including that comsat angels, it's really such an unbelievable resource for music lovers I worry about spoiling it somehow

Florin Cuchares, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 10:20 (one year ago)

all of these polls are bad and annoying but this is the least bad and I'm listening to Sextant for the first time coincidentally and it's the best album ever so hooray for it

imago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 13:16 (one year ago)

jordan the comeback

ciderpress, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 13:41 (one year ago)

sextant and silk degrees and on the beach also own but i liked them pre-ilm whereas i'd never heard prefab sprout

ciderpress, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 13:42 (one year ago)

nice spin on this

I can't decide whether to pick one I boosted (Wau Wau), my fave (hmmm probably Young or Valle?), or the one that's the most ILM-discovery-ish for me (Kvernberg, never would have heard it otherwise)

Yeah, an interesting stat for songs would be the number of ILM mentions divided by the number of Spotify plays. The highest scores would be things like Balloon by Busy Signal or that song about "Common Shapes and Uncommon Shapes" (but I bet Ola Kvernberg scores pretty high)

enochroot, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:11 (one year ago)

yeah I was tempted by Ola but that Wau Wau album is really special

rob, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:12 (one year ago)

Those are both great too

imago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:17 (one year ago)

see jordan the comeback, vote jordan the comeback

This may sound weird but Sextant is absolutely one of the giants Oranssi Pazuzu are rocking out on the shoulders of

imago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:18 (one year ago)

Sextant is probably my favorite here with The Nightfly a close second. The best one that I found through ILM would be Vanishing Twin, although it was their previous album. They have a new one coming out, btw!

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 14:27 (one year ago)

boz scaggs bc great album & one of my ilm thread faves

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 17:33 (one year ago)

Sons Of! (My vote)

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:03 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 6

Favourite: On the Beach

Least-favourite: NRBQ (don't see what the big deal is)

Nicest surprise: NRBQ, nevertheless

Unheard, but most want to hear: Purple Mountains

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 23:24 (one year ago)

Pretty sure I didn't hear Sextant before some ancient jazz thread myself, so I'm tempted to opt for that, if only because it's so on-theme. But I like a number of these.

Chuffed to see that some big ballot-based polls for which I did the number-crunching (Prefab Sprout and Go-Betweens) led to some further listening. :)

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 24 August 2023 02:44 (one year ago)

This is Nightfly for me, which I also first heard about on ILM. Buying that record was a fairly mind blowing event for me.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

jordan might be a common vote but i did find it here and it’s one of my faves ever, so…

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Don't know if it's bad etiquette to vote in your own poll, but at the last minute I voted for Oranssi Pazuzu, which turned out to break the 5-way tie.

enochroot, Friday, 1 September 2023 01:52 (one year ago)

I guess nobody else sees what the big deal is about NRBQ either.
