Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 17:46 (two years ago)

nice list

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 17:47 (two years ago)

Moroder vs. the Only Ones vs. Funhouse vs.... nah too difficult.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 17:48 (two years ago)

I went with Summerteeth because it gets forgotten.

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:00 (two years ago)

When I was briefly thinking about making a list myself I wondered if Happy Monday's would make the cut and that album too. Hatful of Hollow definitely would.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:01 (two years ago)

Stooges are there twice. Wish they should but it’s the same album.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:01 (two years ago)

great list - very happy to see Veedon Fleece so that's my vote.

that's not my post, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:10 (two years ago)

27 albums I love! (28, of you count "Funhouse" twice)

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:27 (two years ago)

El Kinto for being the most unexpected (to me)

rob, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:36 (two years ago)

Despite TH being on my list, I voted Bark Psychosis, that album is amazing

Snoopy is a cat, who lives in a cage (flamboyant goon tie included), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:38 (two years ago)

impossible, voted Sister on impulse

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:38 (two years ago)

I rushed this. Didn't realise I had Funhouse down twice... and 2 Talking Heads albums!

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 18:45 (two years ago)

phenomenal list, i'm so mad i forgot jj cale on mine!

wait, half man half biscuit - he did other music besides "london underground"?

tremolo, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:10 (two years ago)

Thanks for reminding me that I need to cop some Flipper releases on CD.

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:18 (two years ago)

― tremolo, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 7:10 PM (twelve minutes ago)

I think you might be getting them mixed up with someone's else? At least I don't know of any song of theirs called "London underground"

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:25 (two years ago)

i wasn't expecting the el kinto record either, it's a good one tho!

Kate (rushomancy), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 19:59 (two years ago)

Despite Bark Psychosis glaring at me from the pooled shadows, I went JJ Cale.

(picnic, lightning) very very frightening (Chinaski), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:08 (two years ago)

For anyone not familiar with El Kinto

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:53 (two years ago)

Had many from my list here, but voted kaputt (mostly for “bay of pigs”) because you’ve got to spread the love out. Nice list

H.P, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:59 (two years ago)

Bark Psychosis or Janes

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:22 (two years ago)

Thought you'd go for Stooges

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:32 (two years ago)

or Can

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:33 (two years ago)

Voted for Jane's because I should have had it on my own list. I was obsessed with that record for like two years when it came out. They still feel to me like the crest of a wave that never really landed the way it should have (despite bringing the world Lollapalooza and the whole "alternative nation" concept).

read-only (unperson), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:46 (two years ago)

A younger me would've picked Automatic for the People without hesitation but the Janes Addiction album (and particularly that final 1/3 or whatever) has fallen into heavy rotation in later years

Prop Dramedy (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 23:35 (two years ago)

It was a tough choice between AFTP and Murmur for my REM pick

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 23:41 (two years ago)

xps

nah, had to be Janes in the end. A formative album

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 08:11 (two years ago)

Bark psychosis was too mind you

what was the first 'dance music' album you bought?

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 15:01 (two years ago)

The Specials.

lots of contenders for me in this list, but 2 Tone was the musical wake up for me, and so is to blame for everything that has followed since.

― Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, August 23, 2023 3:01 PM (one hour ago)

I'm pretty sure I bought both Chemical Brothers "Dig You Own Hole" (which could easily have ended up on this list) and Daft Punk's "Homework" on cassette in HMV in Limerick on the same day. What was yours?

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:06 (two years ago)

dubnobasswithmyhedman I think. Maybe Orbital II

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:24 (two years ago)

Yeah I think I came to those a few years after they were released. Goldie's "Timeless" was another dance album purchase on cassette after I read a glowing review on Melody Maker about it. I could've easily put that on the list too. I love it more now than I did then actually.

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:53 (two years ago)

I guess this one's my chance to vote for Remain in Light. Love a bunch of these obv.

remain in light seemed to be on a good few lists?

you could always do a formative 'dance albums' list?

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:06 (two years ago)

I imagine both our lists would have a lot of crossover

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:12 (two years ago)

The Clientele!

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:19 (two years ago)

remain in light seemed to be on a good few lists?

It was even in my completely random list of CDs stacked beside my laptop.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:23 (two years ago)

It’s been on a bunch where I voted for other things, that’s what I meant about a chance to vote for it here.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:25 (two years ago)

everyone get mad at michael b for including Hatful of Hollow please

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 18:56 (two years ago)

Julia Holter or Mobb Deep

crisp, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:19 (two years ago)

voted REM, gutted I left that off my list

official representative of Roku's Basketshit in at least one alternate u (lukas), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 19:48 (two years ago)

in truth it would be between pavement and the smiths but probably a month doesn't go by where '"son I am thirty/ I only went with your mother cos she's dirty'" doesn't pop into my head so happy mondays it is

oscar bravo, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 20:13 (two years ago)

haha that's such a great line

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Thursday, 24 August 2023 21:06 (two years ago)

God rains it E's
God rains it E's all on me

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Thursday, 24 August 2023 21:08 (two years ago)

Not seen that Flipper album on other lists. Its a good un.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Friday, 25 August 2023 08:35 (two years ago)

What MC5 album is that?

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Friday, 25 August 2023 19:53 (two years ago)

it's the ROIR tape!

Was it ever released on CD? It's by far the best (and rawest) document of MC5

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 25 August 2023 20:12 (two years ago)

yep ROIR did a CD version

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 20:12 (two years ago)

Looks like there was a vinyl reissue too

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Friday, 25 August 2023 20:20 (two years ago)

you can see me from westbury white horse, Friday, 25 August 2023 20:22 (two years ago)

Number of albums heard: 33

Favourite: Veedon Fleece, again

Least-favourite: The Specials

Nicest surprise: The Royal Scam

Unheard, but most want to hear: Kendrick Lamar

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 26 August 2023 04:46 (two years ago)

One thing I've never understood is why Kind Of Blue is everyone's fave Miles. What other Miles do you like, mike?

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Saturday, 26 August 2023 12:19 (two years ago)

"in a silent way", "on the corner", "Jack Johnson", "bitches Brew", "sketches of Spain"

KOB the first jazz album I really got into. He made more out there music that pushed the genre on for sure and "In a silent way" runs a close second but the melancholy sounds of KOB is the pinnacle of what Miles does imho

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Saturday, 26 August 2023 13:03 (two years ago)

Round Midnight is my fave of his more traditional jazz.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:13 (two years ago)

I know the opening track. Ill give it a listen. I like Birth of The Cool too but I think thats a compilation?

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:47 (two years ago)

yes, but of tracks that pre-date the LP era

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:48 (two years ago)

I own like 30 Miles LPs plus most of those Complete sets and yeah KOB is still easy top 5

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:48 (two years ago)

"Seven Steps To Heaven" and 'Someday My Prince Will Come" are my fave seemingly-overlooked ones, plus the awesome later-period "We Want Miles"

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:50 (two years ago)

I have that Complete Columbia box set, some of the album box sets and some of the important early albums on CD.

I could never get into 'cool jazz' so Birth Of The Cool isn't one of my faves.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Saturday, 26 August 2023 18:51 (two years ago)

― Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Sunday, 27 August 2023 08:33 (yesterday)

You called that one wrong!

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Monday, 28 August 2023 07:53 (two years ago)

Nearly all albums got a vote! You should repoll the ones with zero votes.

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 28 August 2023 08:07 (two years ago)

I think I'm done with polls for the while!

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Monday, 28 August 2023 08:48 (two years ago)

I bet Imago is happy to hear that, lol
