Harmonia it is

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:16 (one year ago)

this is the one where I finally get to vote for Paul's Boutique

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:53 (one year ago)

Ugh great list, picked Budd and disappointed I didn’t put the pavilion of dreams on my list. Great stuff putting the Charlie Brown Christmas album there too, love that one

H.P, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:56 (one year ago)

Nice to see Dead Can Dance make am appearance

Random Restaurateur (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 20:58 (one year ago)

voted jordan in a different poll, so gonna go with that incredible raphael saadiq album

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:08 (one year ago)

Emp Tom Ket

Mark G, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:20 (one year ago)

Man, I should have put Charlie Brown Christmas in among mine

Stomp Jomperson (dog latin), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 21:21 (one year ago)

22 albums I love here. Welcome to the party, The The's "Dusk."

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 22:06 (one year ago)

i really don't know what i'd vote for in my own poll. i might go with Tonight's the Night. I had to add the Maren Morris last second after it having lived in my car all summer, it's an excellent driving album. my most listened-to album for cooking at home is the CFCF, ideally w/the back door open and a breeze coming in.

omar little, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 22:09 (one year ago)

it was really hard to pick between releases by a few of these artists, especially Steely Dan. i probably could have chosen any one of their first seven except Pretzel Logic (a genuine classic, but for whatever reason not the Dan i usually want to turn to.)

omar little, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 22:22 (one year ago)

Catherine Wheel obvs

Same

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 23:05 (one year ago)

I thought it was gonna be Badmotorfinger but that Alice Coltrane album (and Alice Coltrane in general) is next level

Prop Dramedy (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 22 August 2023 23:28 (one year ago)

regretting not including some Thin Lizzy or Yo La Tengo or Eno. but this list is probably more honest without them in some ways.

omar little, Tuesday, 22 August 2023 23:59 (one year ago)

I love:

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
CFCF - The Colours of Life
Def Leppard - Hysteria
New Order - Substance
Prefab Sprout - Jordan: The Comeback
Saint Etienne - Good Humor
The The - Dusk
U2 - Achtung Baby
Underworld - Second Toughest in the Infants

Wouldn't be my choice of Raphael Saadiq but I like seeing it here

I don’t know that Louis Jordan comp but it gets my vote anyway.

o. nate, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 02:53 (one year ago)

The one on MCA with 20 cuts? Longtime favorite, all classics. My vote as well.

Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable POST (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 03:02 (one year ago)

this one. amazing music, some of the best ever recorded. he receives about 1% of the notice he should.

omar little, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 15:55 (one year ago)

OK I gotta check that out

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 15:57 (one year ago)

the Charlie Brown Christmas album is the only Christmas album i listen to year round. Willie Nelson, Duke Pearson, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Kylie, they all go into hiberation. but not this one.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 24 August 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Neil, Gene, or the Gza, hard to choose! many other great options.

ian, Thursday, 24 August 2023 00:02 (one year ago)

I’m not really into compilation albums, but how could you argue with New Order’s Substance

Ceremony
Everything’s Gone Green
Temptation
Blue Monday
Confusion
Thieves Like Us
The Perfect Kiss
Sub-culture
Shellshock
State of the Nation
Bizarre Love Triangle
True Faith

It's perfect, except that it's missing the greatest tracks from Power, Corruption and Lies, their best album - Age of Consent, Your Silent Face, and Leave Me Alone

Dan S, Thursday, 24 August 2023 00:52 (one year ago)

I think some people aren’t down with some of the remixes (temptation, confusion eg) but I’m with you, it’s an amazing comp

brimstead, Thursday, 24 August 2023 00:53 (one year ago)

Thought about Jordan, went with Charlie Brown.

Moniker? I barely know 'er! (SlimAndSlam), Thursday, 24 August 2023 01:33 (one year ago)

i think omar's and nostormo's have had the most artist/album overlap in my hypothetical top 50

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Thursday, 24 August 2023 03:20 (one year ago)

went with studio

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Thursday, 24 August 2023 03:21 (one year ago)

Consider my Roisin entry to actually be Aphrodite by Kylie Minogue I uh changed my mind about the one per artist rule.

omar little, Thursday, 24 August 2023 03:21 (one year ago)

Ian, it's hard to not vote for the Gene Clark, it's kind of unbelievably beautiful.

omar little, Thursday, 24 August 2023 03:22 (one year ago)

i would encourage everyone to listen to the Ex Hex album too, it's one i heard in the store right before i bought it and it blew me away. i think the CW is it's a step down from the debut, but i think it's one of the best pure glorious rock albums in recent memory. it's like a halfway point between Transmaniacon by RTX and California Nights by Best Coast, in a Pac NW indie style.

omar little, Thursday, 24 August 2023 17:47 (one year ago)

Voted Gene Clark because "Strength of Strings" was on a hugely influential mixtape a friend made almost, uhhhh, 30 years ago. First time I heard Can, J. Cope, Autechre, Pentangle, W. Oldham, Nick Drake, "Supervixens," all in one package.

The Terroir of Tiny Town (WmC), Thursday, 24 August 2023 18:22 (one year ago)

Number of albums heard: 18

Favourite: Harmonia over Gene Clark

Least-favourite: Structures From Silence left zero impression

Nicest surprise: "Nice to see Dead Can Dance make an appearance"

Unheard, but most want to hear: Kendrick Lamar

Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 24 August 2023 20:18 (one year ago)

teh first of the flood

nice vote spread here

out-of-print LaserDisc edition (sleeve), Friday, 25 August 2023 00:43 (one year ago)

Great vote spread. As mentioned, I love the Charlie Brown album but how is it getting 3 VOTES (!) in a list like this? Think this will be the only stereolab winner, and they deserved at least one

H.P, Friday, 25 August 2023 00:55 (one year ago)

I didn't notice this one! Lots to like here. Let's pretend I voted in time to spread the love to Telephone Free Landslide Victory.

I'm totally overdue for a fresh listen to that Studio thingy.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Friday, 25 August 2023 01:07 (one year ago)

Oh so ILM still loves Studio. It’s been a while since I revisit that one.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 25 August 2023 01:49 (one year ago)

i listen to Studio on repeat every several months, it really continues to sound unlike anything else.
